The irony is that a Democrat win in November might quell some of the tensions with Venezuela.

However, both political parties are powerless to do anything about the increased speculation in the market, surging foreign demand, refinery fires, and some of the political tension.

Welcome, by the way.

Seems like to me this is just the start of what will become the norm, especially with burgeoning economies like India & China increasing the demand curve.

I remember a poll a couple years or so ago saying that $3/gallon would be the tipping point of when people would start looking to be more economy-minded with gasoline. Looks like it ended up being a little higher price-wise, but I think we are starting to see that happen (I know in my area, at least one prominent Hummer dealership has gone out of business.)

But lots to gain from them with his investments and industry lobbyist ties.

Actually, if gasoline prices reflected the ultimate cost to the earth in terms of global warming and pollution, it would cost $10.00 a gallon. The fact that gas is so much cheaper than that means that SUV and Hummer drivers' (and all auto drivers to a lesser degree) trips to the shopping mall are subsidized by the degredation of the earth.

I've heard that too. If the speculators have their way that could be very soon indeed. I don't know how they would keep gas under $10/Gal. if it went that high. I know If it goes over $5.00 I'm ditching the car seeing as how they don't sell the 80-100MPG cars here that are starting to be manufactured in Europe. Even at my current 42MPG it just doesn't make financial sense.

Just so you guys know - And I realise that you don't give a damn - The price of a gallon in the UK is already over $10 - So stop whinging and buy more fuel economic cars.

Mind you if that tosser Bush hadn't invaded Iraq and de-stabailised the Middle East even more and hacked off most of the Oil Producing countries then oil might be cheaper today and you could all drive your Hummers and kill the earth without a care in the world.

(I didn't start this )

I carpool and that saves $100/ month, but I'm not sure that will even be enough... Soon, it'll cost too much to go to work

I think it's even written in the Declaration of Independence under unalienable rights...life, liberty, and the pursuit of cheap-ass gas
