But I need to find someone crazy enough to do it with me. It's run with teams of 2 people - not a relay, you run together and stay together. Maybe not in 2011, but in 2012? Holeeecow it looks like fun!! In the same twisted way any of what we do sounds fun. Six days of running through the rockies, someone setting up my camp every night and feeding me, it's like a dream!

Hopefully by the time I am actually able to do this, it doesn't become one of those things everyone wants to do and therefore I won't be able to get in

I need a running friend who can put up with me for 6 solid days, and that might actually be the most challenging part. Who's in?

Wow, that sounds fun. I quickly went through the link but there was no 'details'. So how many miles do you run a day? My guess is like two marathons a day kind of thing?

It is funny about your comment about needing a friend who can put with you for 6 days... That reminded me of my trip to Europe at the end of college days - a friend and I took a 10days (?) trip to Europe and couldn't stand each other after 4 days or so. We ended up spending a day separately and reunite for dinner, which ended up working really well exchanging all the experiences and info.

Anyway, not knowing a running partner well may work better in this kind of thing, ya know.

You are getting really adventurous Heidi. Have you lurked the other forum called extreme running or something like that here?

fair point. of course, I mentioned the race to him and he said he'd probably be up for it one day. so perhaps we are both nuts?

I have wanted to do this race for the last several years, but the elevation (altitude) kind of freaks me out. I LOVE your adventurous streak - we should get together from some crazy race that is a little clower to the southeast.

Definitely!! There are so many great ultra/trail races in the SE, including some in my own back yard, so we'll have to coordinate! I am a bit freaked about the elevation as well, but was reading on their forum that there are several 'flatlanders' that did this with no problem (well, as much as running that much is 'no' problem).

Yoshiko - someone locally did this race and did a nice write-up in Endurance magazine (local mag) and I think it was around 20 miles a day totaling around 117 miles for the 6 days. From his article, it just sounded like an amazing experience!!

So wow...

A few days ago my lovely wife sent me a link to a race with a note that said: "Think you might be interested in this... it is right up your alley. It's got your name on it." I checked out the website and, to date, have not stopped thinking about it. I am seriously considering signing up. Heather (wife) said that she would probably go; but even if not, she said I should do it. And I am seriously considering it.

Believe it or not, I found this thread via a search. As you know, I had been very busy for the last year-plus with work and life, so I had far less time to hit up all threads like I usually do. So I was pleasantly surprised to see it here.

Looki: You still thinking about this? I'd really love to. I'm not so much worried about the elevation as I am in finding a partner with similar goals. I'd like to run honest but I want to run socially but still strong, so that we can finish with smiles on our faces, finish uninjured, and have the time of our lives over 6 days. I, like you, am in love with the logistics of this race. It's expensive, but in experience you get what you pay for much like Ironman.

Thor - I DEFINITELY want to do this someday, but you're right about finding the right partner - same goals, ability...time to do this sort of thing... I wish this could be done in pace groups or something, as I would be willing to go out there without a partner and do this with a total bunch of strangers. It won't be this year for sure for me; I have some personal life issues right now that may squash any 'travel' races. However, I am planning on moving up the ultra ladder if my legs allow me (my first 50k in April, hopefully my first 50 miler in the fall!), and hopefully work up to doing something like this in a couple of years. Looks like an amazing experience!!

Looki: Your plan sounds legit. But the time you knock off the 50K and then 50, this type of race should be very doable to the point where you could enjoy it. I would gather that a standalone 50 is MUCH harder than this event, which is not to say this is easy, but I the totally strength gained from ramped up mileage will help you enjoy the rockies experience. And that's exactly what I want out of it. This is such a "life" event as opposed to a race, so I would just keep breathing under control, the memory on my camera free for more pictures, and enjoy it.
