I'm not doing Timberman. I volunteered there in 2008 and in 2009 did the swim/bike as a 70.3 relay with my husband. From what I've heard about 2010, I won't be going back.

It's too bad. I had a BLAST at Timberman and at Mooseman (swimmer in a 70.3 relay in 2009).

Have you heard about the new Rev3 event at Old Orchard Beach in Maine on August 26, 2012?

There's an Oly, a Half, and a Family Adventure Race.

Ocean swim. Run on part of the Eastern Trail.

Aquabike and Relay are official categories.

Apparently they did contact local RD's during the planning stages.

It was pretty much the same last year as most years -- of course it's the same course -- but it definitely did not have the same "feel" to it. I didn't think it was as bad as a lot of people made it out to be. It's still the competitors and the volunteers and the location that make it special, not what corporation is in charge, even if the little things are now missing. For me, I just knew my heart wasn't in triathlon this year and w/o my family doing it, it would not be the same. I am a little sad but I made the right decision.

I saw some posts around the Rev3. That sounds like a good one. I'll be sticking to sprints though. I won't have a pool membership after the end of this month!

I just got home from my 3 hour round trip drive for required Timberman packet pick up - for the flippin' sprint! In less than 12 hours I will do the drive again to participate in the race. Stupid. I get not having day of race pick up for HIM's but a sprint?! They did the same thing for the Mooseman Oly. Pre-race at Gunstock did not have the same happy vibe as the past 4 years. Very few vendors there in front of the massive IM merchandise tent.

Good to know there is a Rev 3 option in Maine. I may consider that next year as I want to get back to a HIM. It's sad...As a NH resident I've been so pleased with the variety of excellent races within reasonable driving distances but I may need to look elsewhere since Endorfun no longer has control of T-man and Moosey. Sad.

I did not do the old race but did the sprint yesterday (race report to follow). I agree that day before picket up could have been a pain but we were staying up there at a friends so gave us an excuse to get out of town during the thunderstorms. Had a great time and the volunteers couldn't have been better. A couple of friends doing the 70.3 asked husband to pick up goodie bag and had no problems.

Doug, driving around down there around the lake at night brough myself and another friend back to RTB. We had both run legs in the Center Harbor, Meredith.

I really feel that there needs to be a group "letter" - or petition to WTC from 1000's of us to say these things and they'd listen, but I don't know that it would be possible.

AdCo: I tried last year to talk to Keith Jordan who was still race director then as well as WTC about the night before required packet pick up for a sprint and they did not listen or care. The tri team I am part of has pulled support for those races as well and wrote Keith Jordan a long letter enumerating all the good things he did that are no longer done as well as the negative things that WTC has incorporated since they bought his races. I am sure he signed a non-compete and non-disparagement clause when he sold those races so there really wasn't much he could do. It is so sad that such wonderful races took a downturn so sharpely from an awesome experience into just an experience. I know when I crashed last year at Timberman sprint they did not even file any of the required paperwork with USAT until I told them they needed to so I could look into the USAT accident insurance we get as members of USAT. Needless to say neither Brian nor I raced this year and several friends we know also stayed away. Several of us rode 70 miles together Saturday and offered a moment of silence for what was a great race and all had no regrets about not racing it this year or ever again. Another thing: last year a friend did the 70.3 and finished after the main body of people but way before the cutoff and there was no one at the finish line to give her a medal or take her timing chip off or give her water or anything. It was her first 70.3 race. WTC is like every other provate equity firm I have dealt with in my years in the financial services industry. It is purely an investment to them and the community aspect of the sport be damned.

Apparently during the sprint, there was a bad accident at the corner of Henderson Rd. and 11-B on the bike out. One of the "Team Angry" members was down and according to at least a couple of people I talked to, very badly -- maybe even receiving CPR.

not sure if it happened on the ascent or descent from those hills. On my way out there was an ambulance rolling by and then another went by us right after the turn around. As i went by that area the two of them were in the middle of the road. mentione dto someone I was going by that I hated that sound and he agreed, adding his wife was behind him so it made it that much tougher. Of course that might have been a drafting violation. Did not hear anything after the race. Also heard that 2 guys from the 55 - 59 AG were taken from the water.
