I was one that did the full along with solarpowered. First half is definitely the more scenic of the halves, with you running through a nice residential area then through Kitty Hawk and the Wright Memorial. The trail portion is a couple miles long with varying terrain (different running surfaces and some dune-like inclines and declines) - personally I didn't mind it so much, but you do tend to get a lot of crap in your shoes that you have to empty out.

The second half is along the highway, so while it's flat, it's not exactly the most interesting. You do have to cross the bridge into Manteo at mile 23 (not a pleasant sight if you're struggling) but Manteo itself is a nice place to finish up.

I think the people really do appreciate the runners who come out since it is the off-season for the area, so the crowd support is plentiful (though thins out as you get closer to the bridge - it picks up once you cross it and get closer to the finish) all things considered. Also, the organization of the race was pretty good as well, so overall it's a nice race to run...if you can get a spot close to the shoreline for lodging, that would be an added bonus.
