I did the HM there last year. A bunch of the 30's people did the full. I ran a PR there, and I thought the HM course had both good and not-so-good stuff to it. Several of the Full peeps didn't like a portion (not sure exactly which miles) of the race where the path was narrow. Overall, I liked the race, even though it was a hot, sunny day.

I was one that did the full along with solarpowered. First half is definitely the more scenic of the halves, with you running through a nice residential area then through Kitty Hawk and the Wright Memorial. The trail portion is a couple miles long with varying terrain (different running surfaces and some dune-like inclines and declines) - personally I didn't mind it so much, but you do tend to get a lot of crap in your shoes that you have to empty out.

The second half is along the highway, so while it's flat, it's not exactly the most interesting. You do have to cross the bridge into Manteo at mile 23 (not a pleasant sight if you're struggling) but Manteo itself is a nice place to finish up.

I think the people really do appreciate the runners who come out since it is the off-season for the area, so the crowd support is plentiful (though thins out as you get closer to the bridge - it picks up once you cross it and get closer to the finish) all things considered. Also, the organization of the race was pretty good as well, so overall it's a nice race to run...if you can get a spot close to the shoreline for lodging, that would be an added bonus.

Good to hear.

I've got friends of the family who have neighbors who said that they could let people use their house.

So, if I did this one, I'd have a "family" place to stay, in Manteo. I think it would be worth it for a no cost lodging to be off the shore, especially since I'd also have the chauffer services as well.

IT's two weeks after MCM next year, so it would have to be the next year before doing it....

or, maybe doing the half? lol

nahhhhhhhhhh

lol

There's also a triathlon there in September....HIM, OLY and Sprint options.

Maybe that's an option for the following year.
