"U.S. President Barack Obama is proposing a $5.50 "passenger inspection fee" for Canadians. The proposal is contained in the 2012 draft budget he submitted to Congress on Monday." ""

Really? Is that the economic recovery plan?

Canadians that are going into the US will spend money....whether it's business or pleasure, there will be economic gains.

I'd suggest that the Canadian Government propose the same for US visitors...but we would charge in Canadian dollars...or a few beads & blankets....I'd call it the "Barak at ya'".

Actually, Arnold should run with this idea in California...think about it...waaaay more people visit California.

Actually, Arnold's not the Governator any more. He left office and is in training to be a movie theater usher. He has to learn where the seats and sections are, so when he looks at your ticket, he can say, "Aisle B. Back.".

But some countries do make you pay when leaving the country. Jamaica has some idiotic fee all non-Jamaica citizens have to pay after "enjoying" a vacation there and then returning home.

As for charging Canadians, I suspect Ottawa will return the favor if we actually implement it. On the other hand I'm thinking maybe I'll start charging JC a $20.00 fee for each time he visits Atlanta. Cash only in U.S. dollars please.

Heck, here in New Jersey, so many people are leaving the state because of taxes, they now have a tax for moving out of the state.
Oh, IDK. If you take a cruise the cruise line has to pay a fee for every passenger on the ship. Same kind of fee, just collected by a different level of government. And who's to say that some of that money doesn't go to the highest level of what ever government is in charge.

I'm sure there are hidden fees everywhere.

As far as I know, the cruise ships are charged environmental fees, docking fees, etc....they're a high impact business. It has nothing to do with the nationality of the passengers. If you were to take a cruise to Alaska, you'd still get charged those fees even though you are American.

I find it offensive that a country has had to seek aid in the form of a fee out of their neighbour's wallet in order to help manage their economic woes. I was only half kidding about being charged to go into California. If you drive across that state line, you already have to go through a Dept of Agriculture "border". I'm sure that a visitor fee would help offset those costs as well. Imagine how pissed Oregano's, Nevadonians, & Arizonanians would feel.

Imagine the EEC doing that?

The point is that visitors/tourists equal dollars....it doesn't have to be administrated.
