OK, I won't ask, but I hope your next race goes better for you! It seems to be a continous process of learning what works and what doesn't. That must be part of what keeps us coming back for more <img alt="biggrin.gif" src="http://files.kickrunners.com/smilies/biggrin.gif">

i've DNFed my fair share of races. it happens. I've cried a lot over DNFing in the past. But i try to learn from each experience and i really truly have.

No problem. I have DNFed at least 3 races off the top of my head. All for different reasons. The more and more i talk to people at races (mostly ultras) the more and more i learn about how much some people DNF races. I think it is something a lot of people do not talk about and that makes it even harder when it happens to you.<br>
then there are the people who will finish a race no matter what and sometimes put themselves in a bad spot. i had a friend who hurt herself at a race and decided to continue and ended up in PT for several months because of her choice to continue.

Better luck on your next race, and glad to hear you already have another lined up.<br><br>
I think it was merigayle who introduced me to the phrase DNF = Did Nothing Fatal.

Hey Bux,<br><br>
DNF'ing is something that happens to all of us. I DNF'd in my first Equinox, and quite honestly, I think it probably made me a better marathoner. I had much more respect for the distance after that day.<br><br>
A friend once told me that DNF stands for <b>D</b>id <b>N</b>othing <b>F</b>atal. You get to live to fight another day.<br><br>
So it wasn't your day. The next one will be better. <img alt="smile.gif" src="http://files.kickrunners.com/smilies/smile.gif">

I personally run because I like the character it builds in me, and in those I run with. The most important runs I've done are the ones where something has gone really wrong. Looking back, I wouldn't trade the 5 "worst" races of my life for the 5 "best."<br><br>
You'll be back, and do it again.

I guarantee like Hippo and EQ said that the experience you had was either a complete freak accident or something that taught you a valuable lesson that will help you overcome the obstacle when it comes again.

I hope you got to meet up with people and at least had an 'experience". I know you will be ready for your next race. <img alt="smile.gif" src="http://files.kickrunners.com/smilies/smile.gif">

one last thought. After 2 of my more detrimental DNFs (the ones where i cried for a couple days) my imaginary online buddies really helped me get through it. In retrospect it is silly to cry over a race, but when you spend a lot of time and effort in preparation for one day, if it goes poorly, it can be devestating at the time.
