Here!

I think we have several KR's here. Lots of great places to run - my favorites are the metroparks and the Cuyahoga Valley. It's going to be fun to follow this thread when race season returns in the Spring.

I ran in Strongsville near Bonnie Park today. It was so beautiful and peaceful at 8am. It was COLD too. I need winter gear!

West sider!

Hey, if anyone here is interested in doing Akron, I found the best spot in the area for a long run to get ready for those hills. I'm gonna do Bayshore in May which is flat, but still plan on running quite a bit of hills cause they do such a great job of strengthening the legs.

If anyone is interested in meeting up to see Spirit of the Marathon I'm going to see it at Regal Cinemas in Middleburg Heights. I wish I could get everyone in for free but I think I'm lucky I'll be getting in for free!

Greetings! I'm in Sagamore Hills...spitting distance from the Tow Path.

Would love to meet up for the movie next week, but I'll be out of town. Perhaps another time.

Sorry it took me so long to get back on this - haven't really been to this forum in a while

Starting at Brookpark and Broadview (not sure if that's 7 hills or Parma) head South on Broadview to Rockside Rd and turn left on Rockside. Bascially from there just follow Rockside till you're half way done with your run. It'll take you down in to and then back out of Valleyview. As you come out of Valeyview, there's a really long hill, a full mile, that ends in, I think, Garfield Heights. There's a KMart at the top of the hill. If you turn around there, it'll be about a 13 mile run when all is said and done.

If you're coming in from the east, take 480 to State Road exit, turn South on State to Brookpark and left on Brookpark. The next MAJOR intersection is Broadview.

I'm probably gonna run this route this coming Saturday.

NE Ohioans - your help wanted!

I'm an aid station captain for the Burning River 100 mile race on Saturday, August 2nd. I need volunteers for a few hours during the day.

My aid station is at Station Road Bridge in the CNVP, which is miles 36 & 42 of the 100 mile course. We are open from 10AM - 5PM and I can use your help for 2-3 hours.

Those who sign-up early enough with me earn a BR100 volunteer T-shirt.

Bring your family and friends. All are welcome.

Thanks!

I will be traveling to Akron for a couple of days soon ! Anyone know of somewhere i can enjoy a few miles ?? We are staying at a Hampton Inn on Lakepointe Dr. I prefer trails but won't have a lot of time to play with.
I see that there is Cuyahoga Valley Park ... it looks pretty close but its hard to tell how far from the hotel. Am i close ? It looks like i might be able to pick up a canal towpath thingy around there. Anyone know anything about this or any trails in that park that would be close to where i am staying ?

Thanks Ohio folks !

Your hotel is close to some very good trails in the CVNP. Several options nearby, but i would get to one of these two:

1) Happy Days Visitor's Center (take Rte 8 north, exit Rte 303 west). Run to the south of 303 on the Ledges trail (good rock formations here.)

2) Kendall Lake (Truxell Rd) or Pine Hollow parking lot (Quick Rd.). The Salt Run trail is one the better ones in the valley.

The Buckeye Trail is not far either.

If you want a flat run on dirt, go anywhere down to the bottom of the valley, such as Lock 29 in Peninsula, and the Towpath Trail goes for endless miles in either direction. The towpath follows the Cuyahoga River and is flat with mile markers.

If you have time, the best trail running store in the area is in Hudson, not far from where your staying. I work there. It's called the Vertical Runner. Stop in if you get a chance.

This week is the Burning River 100. Most of the trails I suggested are part of the BR100.

Get in touch if you have more questions. I am nearby.

Merci, Roots ! I will try n get some info on the trails you mentioned. I would really like to check them out. We will actually be there on race weekend So it looks like i might be out on the course if i can find my way onto the trails ! That would be too cool ! Unfortunately i have some time commitments so my trail time will be a limited on Saturday. Perhaps if DH will humor me i can spend some time exploring on Sunday before we head home.

I will do some homework and get back to You with questions if you dont mind.

Thanks agin !

Roots mentioned all the good stuff and if you have the time you should go to one of them instead of what I mention next.

The absolute closest / most_convenient to your hotel is the summit county bike and hike trail. It is literally right outside your hotel. Out the front of your hotel, turn right, and you can pick the trail up before you go over (or maybe under) the freeway (SR. Or you can pick it up from TGIFridays parking lot. That said, that section of the trail is about the least scenic. If it were me, I'd head south (left) on that trail from there, as it is less unscenic. Oh, and this is a paved path.

Thanks razzzzz ! While i prefer a 'real' trail and am hoping and planning to make to CNVP I do have some family wedding obligations for the weekend which will dictate my time. Those things can sometimes be unpredictable so its good to know that the paved trail is there as a backup or quick fix Also, my husband will probably want to use that one as he's not really into the trail running thang.
