Thanks for checking in, Eric. I hope your training and your race goes well.

TAK - I, too, am eagerly awaiting the arrival of "250 lbs of twisted steel"

Hi Hup,

You are running Napa? This is big news. I didn't realize that you had gotten back into serious running mode...great! I was considering giving Napa a try myself, but recovery from CIM has been taking longer than I'd hoped.

I'm anxious to see how it goes for you. Will be watching for progress updates.

Hey folks - checking in also. I'm in the general Napa vicinity myself

Hey Henry - I think I remember you saying you were doing Napa. Funny how things work out - I was going to do it also, but then couldn't from something that ended up not happening (an overseas work detail.)

Even if I had the running base going, I still couldn't do it - doc says I may have a fracture in my left big toe. Going to get the lowdown this Friday.

Nice to see you both, Jim & Joe! Maybe we can get some traction with the thread and perhaps get together to run or at a race (as some of us have in the past)

Jim - you ran hard and fast at CIM, and it was just 4 weeks ago. If the "one day per mile raced" axiom is true then you should just now be ready to get back to business. I had a rather crappy 2007 both runningwise and in having just too much to do. I chose Napa because the training and race work around my other true vice, senior baseball. Training has been going well, and I'm hoping for a solid, if unspectacular, buildup and race. There is a new marathon here in Fresno in November. So if Napa goes well I'll put all of my eggs in the local basket and try to approach my elusive PR again. Fresno is where I ran my current PR and is also where I grew up. This should be a flat and fast course, if you are so inclined

Joe - what happened to your toe? Hopefully it's not too serious. Maybe if you get back on the road you can run the 5K at Napa? I ran it years ago when I was there to pace a friend running the marathon. Funniest thing, the age group awards looked like ribbons that you'd see at a horse show or something. I joked that they checked all of our teeth before the race

Happy New Year, guys!
I ended up jamming it into a couch leg by accident in mid-September. The first joint was bent downward when it made impact as well (it was dragging along the carpet) so that didn't help matters I'm sure.

The toe has never fully healed up since then - the normal ROM hasn't returned, and it still hurts like a mutha' if I bend or hit it in the wrong way Running actually doesn't really cause it pain (save for a residual area soreness after harder or longer efforts) but I imagine it's not helping the healing process any. Plus, I'm not getting a good pushoff from that foot, which has led to all sorts of aching parts on the opposite leg that I've never had ache before.

At this point, I just want to know what I'm facing and then get on with it.

East Bay runner checking in here (San Ramon). Right now I'm training for the Del Sol Ragnar Relay at the end of February, which I'm looking forward to. (we actually need a couple more runners, anyone interested? ) I had to take some time off last August for a back injury so it's been good to have some motivation to get back on the roads.

Hi Kristin

Thanks for checking in. Sorry I won't get to meet you at Napa. I understand that Eugene is a great event and look forward to hearing how you like it.
I've run your hometown (CIM) race 4 times(!) You live in a great running area.
Is the half that you ran last year a trail race?
Now you have me nervous!! I'm a masters runner who just got back into running last June after several years off, this will be my first race in my running rebirth and first ever trail race. I'm just doing the 8K course and am just running it to motivate myself and see if I like this trail running stuff. Do you think I bit off too much??

I was under the impression they run up Valencia Peak (but I dont know about the 8K). Its a beautiful hike and I wouldnt worry too much...its not like you cant walk if you have to. Hive you hiked out there?
PCTR races are always well supported and fun, but they do tend to be hard in my opinion. Just dont go in with a time goal and you will be fine.

I really wasnt much of a runner when I lived down there so I dont know complete specifics...just what I heard from a former coworker that won the longest distance one year.

I just looked at their maps and the 8K doesn't look bad. This is the listing of elevation gains:
8K 800'
12K 1670'
25K 3200'
50K 6400'

The 8K cuts off right before the really steep stuff to climb Valencia Peak. The longer runs combine loops of Valencia Peak and Hazard Peak, the 50K hits both peaks twice!!

I'm still going to give it a try!!!
