Talk about spoiled...sheesh~~~~~~~ I'm already..wahwahwahwahwhimperwhimper..over the price of gas. If there is no NFL next season....yep....wahwahwahwahwhimperwhimperwhimper. A man who has everything all jacked over gas and football....???? Think about all those who can't even afford a big screen TV, a nice ride to put that expensive gas in. They can't afford DISH/The NFL NETWORK. Their problem is that next meal. I should be ashame of myself. So how come I'm not?

As long as college football is around I'm not overly concerned about the NFL.

My problem with the player's wanting to see the books of the owners is that they are paid very well for playing a game. If I told the owners of my company I wanted to see their books to justify my raise or non-raise I would be shown the door with a foot up my ... What the owner's make is simply none of my or anyone else's business. If you aren't happy with your salary go somewhere else and/or start your own business and assume the risk(s) involved. Then you are entitled to make as much profit as you can and keep or share the rewards as you see fit.

I couldn't agree more. I'd love to see those NFLer work in the real world for a few weeks, they'd run back to the NFL. I do think something needs to be done about the rookie $$$$$. It's got ridiculous. Paying big $$$$$ on an unproven player????? They need some kind of bracket system. A first rounder makes that much a second rounder this much and...... They also sign for two years, after two years..then..you bring in the agents and talk worth.

I don't pity the players at all, like you said...if they aren't happy....................

It's pretty simplistic to look at it as greedy billionaire owners versus greedy millionaire players.

But that's about what it is.

If the owners wish to pay the players $150 per game that is perfectly within their rights. If the players do not wish to play for what the owners wish to pay that is also perfectly within their rights. They can go elsewhere or find a more lucrative occupation.

I think that if the owners choose to replace all the players with others there would be about a year's worth of grumbling and fan discontent...mainly because betting and fantasy pools would be a straight crapshoot. After a year or so the teams would be sorted out and the world would go on.

Perhaps the NFL...and a lot of other big time pro sports have seen their best days anyway. Frankly, I used to watch religiously and now I'd never sit at home watching a game on TV if I had something better to do. I haven't been to a game in 5 years and frankly I'd only go now if someone gave me tickets.

I am a Detroit Lions fan. Been without NFL football for over a decade. Next fall will be no different.

I expect that both sides will wait until it starts to hurt, that is when they start missing games in the fall. The season will probably happen, but it will be shortened. Season will probably start in October sometime.

I actually disagree with the sentiment that the owners do not have to show their books. The fact that the owners will not do so tells me they are hiding something. I get that most businesses won't do that. I think that is wrong too. There would be no league without the players. There would be no league without the owners. To bargain in good faith they need to be open and honest with each other. The players risk plenty. Like full time workers in other businesses who devote the prime earning years of the lives to that business, I am not buying they risk nothing. I thought I heard a line from an ESPN interview that the average life span of an NFL players is 52 years ?!?! I had never heard that and ESPN did not elaborate. Maybe I heard it wrong but i would be interested in hearing more about why that is true, if it is true.

I certainly do not need to see an 18 game schedule. 0-16 is bad enough.

I agree that I will not miss the NFL also in part that college football to me is more interesting then the pros anyway. But ofcourse my teams in college are at least mediocre.

While I have became more of an NCAA fan lately, I still dig the NFL. I agree with everything you said.

I would also like to the NFL players "union" stand up for the workers in Wisconsin and eslsewhere also, in addition to watching out for their own interests, since allegedly that is what unions are all about.

Here's the one thing you all fail to see in the "show us your books" thing. The NFL is a Monopoly. Because the NFLPA is a Union, the gov't allows the monopoly to exist without the regular checks and balances. This is why there is a CBA. If there is no CBA and the union decertifies like it did, then the NFL is in a monopoly situation and really can't win. they can't play the "too bad, don't like the pay, go find another job," bit because there is NOT another one - CFL/UFL don't count for this purpose. The only to get a CBA is negotiation and they do that by splitting the pie of $ that comes in. By saying "we need more" they are saying they can't afford to do business. The union thinks that EVERYONE should be able to make money and has no problem giving them things, but they want to know if a company is losing $ because Income < debt, etc.. OR if Income > debt, BUT then there are expenses such as 4 of the owners children being paid to "do nothing" and therefore making it seem like there is less money to go around, etc. SO.. that is why they are asking for the books and while I don't think they should get them, it is a somewhat fair response to "we need more $."

My GF is a friend of Larry Morris' son. He was a linebacker for the Bears in the 60's...MVP in the 1963 NFL Championship. He has had dementia for years. When the family was having difficulty with the cost of his care the NFL stepped in and paid most of it. At first they thought it was a kind gesture, but later realized that more likely it was to help fend off the start of a wave of lawsuits.

I'm not sure about the 52 year thing, but I have met some very very old ex-NFL players who are actually in their late 40's and early 50's.

Danger pay for a shortened life span doesn't seem right to me. If it is that dangerous then they should do something about it. Make it safer or ban it.

...like that's gonna happen.
