Well here we are, the last day of 07 awaiting the results of Billy's challenge, reports of totals for the year, goals for the next, and a report of how Phil and Tonya's first anniversary date went.

I hope all of you have a wonderful New Years! I'm looking forward to another year with all my CR friends and getting to know our new friends here on KR.

One more ride on the bike for me a little later and then I'll start the year with a short run tomorrow.

Ended this year with 1653 miles even tho I missed most of December. Shooting for 2000 in 08 with 2 marathons if things go well and I can avoid another injury like this one.

Good morning all.

Dan - Have a good ride. I blew Billy's challenge. I said I was going to sleep in, didn't happen up early and out for a run. Hope you have a great 2008.

5.23 miles for me in 40:28. I was shooting for 7:45 splits and ran: 7:44, 7:45, 7:43, 7:43, & 7:45. I am happy with that especially with the hills.

The plan in for maybe 20 miles at lunch on the bike to finish the year off. I was well on my way for a 2000 mile year for 07 until the injury in September. Finished with 1601 miles. Will give a full report on the year later today.

Happy new year all. Hope everyone had a great 07'

My summary for the weekend:

Saturday: Too hungover to run
Sunday: Long run (no watch, so.....Maybe 10 miles?)

Today I hope to hit the TM for 3-4 miles, and I definitely want to sneak out of work EARLY.

Tomorrow I will watch the Fighting Illini shake up the world and knock off USC in the Rose Bowl.

Although I'm going to start actively getting into the "training mode" mindset starting tomorrow, my actual training schedule starts Jan. 6th

Dan - Thank you for that heartfelt message this morning. It brightened my day.
Our anniversary went really well, thank you for asking, and I'll post a picture of the surprise I got when I get home later. I just don't have the photo with me here.

Dave - Well, I guess you pulled a Tonya today, huh? And you're even doing a double workout today...shame, shame.

Richard - Have a great New Year's Eve party this evening! Sounds like fun. Thanks for that anniversary wish for Phillip and I.

Nirvana - I am going to try to get out of here early today too. No use in sticking around someplace where most others are on vacation, eh?

Today is most likely going to consist of the typical lunchtime run, only with a kick. And I do mean a kick. I am just going to try to run the fastest mile I can manage. That's my challenge for myself for this end of 2007. I already accomplished my non-existent goals, heh:
--Qualify for Boston
--Win a marathon
--Win my first marathon
--Exceed 2600 miles for the year
--Run a sub 19 minute 5k

I'm not planning on doing any more elliptical workouts for this year, so I might as well tell you all that my total mileage on that is, get this, 2008 miles! HA! I'll report my final total for running later...

Happy New Year's all, and thank you KickRunners for so graciously accepting us CoolRunners!!

Got up a little while ago. Needed the sleep after a bad night Saturday. Going out in a little bit to do the one mile challenge. My only obstacle will be the leftover slushy snow on the road. Hoping to break 6 minutes. Going on a downhill/flat course, so hopefully I will be able to do it. Will report back later. Looking for a total of 3miles today. Main goal for the New Year as of now is to bump my weekly mileage up to 30. Next goal is sub 20 5k and the last is to run all 5k's under 21 minutes. If I can get the sub 6 today I will have accomplished that goal for the year. Have a great morning.

Oh and since we're doing the whole goal thing, here is what I lined up at the beginning of last year:

Sub 18:00 5k - DONE: 17:53 on 4/29/07
Sub 30:00 8k - NOPE: Only ran one 8k, 30:25 on 3/25/07
BQ at Chicago - NOPE: DNF
PR at all distances - NOPE, although I DID PR at all races I finished
Another ultra or 2 - DONE: 50 miler on 10/27/07 (9:13:04)

And these were my long term goals:
17:00 5k
4:30 Mile
3:00:00 marathon
5:00:00 50k
Complete a 50 miler

So that leaves new goals for this year:
17:30 5k
4:30 Mile
30:00 8k

Keeping it a little easier this year.

Quick fly-by post for now, more later.

Indoor soccer last night. Played all 50 minutes which equates to about 3.3 miles. Later today I plan to lay down a mile time trial on the track as part of the year-end challenge. But first I have to take care of some work (i.e., for my job) even though I'm technically on vacation. It seems an emergency has cropped up while I was out. Hopefully I can clear it up though with an hour or two from my home computer. Then I'll be free to hit the track.

great running so far everyone. good luck on all the goals. we'll have some pretty competitive people in here with tonya and nirvana. Congrats on the anniversary, Tonya here's to many more. My parents are right around 26, going strong, it's sweet to see. Good run today. Faster than planned, but that's been the theme lately I guess. Woke up early so I could have a day to relax instead of running, core, eat, lay around for 2 hours and repeat. Up at 7 to about 4 inches of new snow, surprisngly not too hard to run in. Hit my first mile in 7:45, felt relaxed and easy. I run for time so I planned on doing an hour and a half today. Don't klnow many of my splits, but did a few loops at different points in the run of this 1.26 loop at my park. hit 8:40,8:33,8:42, so those were all around 6:45-6:55 pace. Ended up hitting 12.9 in an hr 30 for I think it was around 6:55 pace. felt good aerobically and felt pretty slow leg wise, like I wasn't pushing. Would still like to slow the runs down a bit. got another 4 or so to do tonight, than tomorrow is my medium long run of about 14, i'll prob head out for an hr 40-45. So goals eh?
p.rs are 9:45-3k- no speed in these young legs
16:17- 5k
33:47-10k

off of 2 weeks of training I went 9:51 a few weeks ago. so i'd like to run..
9:30-3k
15:50-5k
32:50- 10k. (sub 33 will qualify me for one of my college post season meets)
then i'll actually be out of college in 2008 too scary thought so i'll be hitting the roads which means marathon-the event i've always seen myself fit for. Basic goal is just qualify for boston. Real goal sub 2:40 which will be good for my first time out. Would like to at some point in my life be under 2:30 ok i'll shut up now.
good running to the rest of you today and stay safe tonight.

Boyerdavea - great even splits!. Great goals all.

I will be doing a 5-mile ish champagne run with my running club later on. We run about a mile from house to house, toasting the new year. By the 5th and last house, you aren't running anymore, coasting is more like it.

Having run competetively for 35 years now, I no longer time my runs or track annual mileage or any of that. But I'm healthy and that means I've met all my goals for 2007. Have a Happy, all!

O.K. everyone I will be the first to put down the New Years Eve 1 Mile challenge. The temperature was 24 degrees and flurries. Street conditions were terrible (snow, ice and slush). I will call this my 1 mile slush fest as there was slush flung all up and down the back of me when I got home. I wanted to do a course that was all downhill, but I decided on one that was about half downhill and then a little bit of a straight shot on a snow packed sidewalk and then uphill to the finish. Considering the conditions I think I did pretty well. 1 mile @ 6:26.76 and 3 miles total for the day in 25:38 which included a mile warmup and cool down. Good luck to all who are trying for a fast mile today.

Been away from home for the last week+, so I haven't been around here. It looks like this is where the coolrunners ended up for the most part instea of active?
Dave- not too shabby witht all the injuries for the year. I'm sure you'll come back strong in 08.
Nirvana- I'll be in the Illinois corner as well tomorrow. Outside of OSU, they're the team I most want to see win this bowl season.
Tonya, Congrats on the anniversary and a great year of running.

My running kind of sucked in December, which in retrospect probably wasn't such a bad thing. It gave me a little chance to step back a little bit, but it also gave me a chance to pack on the weight, so that'll be my first priority in 08. I didn't set many specific running goals for 2007 but that'll change for '08. I will end up over 2000 for '07 unless I miss my first day in 800+ tonight (I'm sitting at 1999.1 right now)
I sat down to write my 2008 goals for the year last night with 3 tiers- Minimum, Ideal and stretch. In addition to my running plans, I have some other fitness related goals in there to help balance out my overall health.
I'll post the first 2 tiers sometime later (left them at home), but I'm not going to reveal any of the stretch goals unless something crazy happens and I approach them.

David--you machine you!

Tonya and Phillip--congratulations on your first anniversary! You made it through the hardest year! My grandparents would have celebrated their 68th tomorrow.

Slept in again this morning. Still feeling tired and not 100%. Fishbowl for me. 1700 in 40:35. THis is the first time I've come even close to the time my coach had for me. Missed it by 35secs. Usually, I'm off by 20% or so. So, I'm quite happy with this swim!

THen for a run. Coach didn't ahve me down for a run but I needed 3 miles for a nice even year end total. Emailed my coach and he said go for it, since he knew I was going to do it anyway! It was supposed to be an easy run, but guess I don't have an "Easy" gear... 3.1m, 27:08, 8:45pace.

Hi gang.

An easy recovery pace over some hilly terrain. 3.62 miles total, bringing me to 1788 for the year, well short of my original (attainable) goal of 2200, but I was off running for about 6 weeks and had a long slog back.

Good year, good way to end the year. Have good runs all!

An easy run over 2.4 miles tonight for my last run of the year - completed at 8:05 pace. I have a 5K race tomorrow to kickstart the year, no great expectations -

My year was truncated in the first half, with my mums illness and subsequent passing, so my yearly figure of only 543.8 seems miserly, but has good reason. All in all I am not entirely disappointed with 07, running wise, and it gives me a target for 2008 when I hit the half century

Doing the same run as Arrojo tonight, should be a good time (kind of like Hashing)!

I met my goals for 2007, but at a cost ... the joy of running left me for quite some time. I'm happy to finally have it back. I'm going to run more trails in 2008 and am sticking to my "marathon free year" plan.
