Hello to everyone! I just joined today and wanted to introduce myself. I've started running in March after a 6 year hiatus, I was never a very serious runner in the past. I am currently running approx. 7-9 miles per week and have registered for a 5k in October. I have a completely different attitude towards running this time around. Not sure why, if it's the two children I've had and the pregnancy weight I want to desperately shed, or if it's just the fact that I really need a positive and healthy hobby. Maybe both. Anyway, I've been hard-pressed to find a running partner, other than my wonderful Rhodesian Ridgeback (who loves to run), so I thought perhaps an online community could help keep up my motivation when it gets low, as I'm sure it will at some point. Looking forward to meeting all of you out there in the virtual world and jumping into the discussions.

<---My running partner, Zeke

Welcome Jill I see that you are from the Allentown area. There is a great running group out there. I run a lot of their events (Sept 15K, 5 mile Christmas City Classic and the Lehigh Valley Half) I actually live in NJ but it's easy for me to get out that way-I just hop on 78. The events are very well organized. Rick Weaver is the guy that runs them and he does an awesome job. The people are always nice and supportive regardless of your level. I think their website is lvrunning.com Good luck and post what you are running hopefully we will meet up at one of the races.

Hey Jill,

One thing I'll pass along that might help with motivation. Once every week or two take the time to go someplace special and run as a treat to yourself. The special memories you get from this will serve as motivation for the days you just need to get up early and run around the neighborhood.

I'll also say that one of my greatest regrets is that I didn't discover trail running until I was in my 40s. All those wasted years (sigh.) You don't have to be a hard case or nutjob to do this. Just go a mile or two - find a nearby hiking trail and run on it: walk the hard parts, run the easy ones, but see the trail through the eyes of a runner.
