I saw it in my email box this morning! It's like the new touch and iphone- it rotates the image when you rotate the pod!!! So freaking cool. I don't need it, but still..... I'm saving up to get the iphone next year anyway.....

I'm going to get an mp3 player before winter.

I know a lot of people who've had their Ipods die shortly after the warrentee or, if they bought the extended one, Apple said the failure was due to misuse.

Microsoft Zume, maybe?

suggestions?

DW and DD have Zumes, they do not use it much but still prefer it to the ipod - not sure why

I have been through 3 ipods but the Zune is still running strong. I think Microsoft is getting out of the MP3 player biz so no new Zunes.

My DH and I bought the Minis when they first came out, mine now lives in my car attached to my stereo. I have 2 shuffles because one does not have enough battery life for a 100 mile race!(shoot, they are so cheap, especially refurbished, you cannot go wrong!) DH then bought the nano because i took his mini to my office to run the office music off of.

Mrs Pete has a shuffle and it's gotten wiggy in less than a year.

I want something I can watch movies on as I rack up long runs on the TM when it's the ick outside this winter.

I had inherited my DS's 2gb Nano, but he recently lost his last generation 4gb model so I gave it back. I think I'll have to go buy myself a new one.

I could buy him the new one, but since he was not responsible with his last one, I'm letting him pay for a new one if he wants it. I'm mean like that.

Gee, thanks a lot people. You just turned a "Wouldn't mind having for long winter TM runs" to a full blown case of technolust for an object which I won't have $ for for a few months.

I'll add this to the list with a new road bike.

I bought a RioForge and the volume control died within a year. I just bought headphones with a volume adjustment and I'm good. I only wear it walking to work so it doesn't get a huge amount of use.

I had the Rio Blue for the longest time and LOVED it, but it was too bulky. I still have it, and even use it from time to time - the sound on it is great and I use it out in the wood shop.

Based on Meri's recommendation, I got a shuffle for my last birthday, and I think that I've never been happier with a gadget than I am with the shuffle. For running, it's the best! If this one ever croaks, I will immediately get another.

For watching movies, DH got the Insignia MP3 - Best Buy's store brand, and it rocks! For about half the price of the Zune, it does everything the Zune does, it's super user friendly, has tremendous battery life, and the picture clarity is very good.

But if watching movies is what you want to do on the treadmill, why not grab one of those portable DVD players. They're fairly inexpensive, you can set it on the treadmill, and the picture is much larger. O.K., sorry. I know you're having a bad case of techno lust - didn't mean to add to it.

My iPod lineage

1st Gen 5GB - hard drive died after 4 years of heavy use. It's been sitting in my drawer for some time, thinking that I might convert it to flash storage.
iPod mini (green) This is my regular running partner.
30GB black classic (in car), also acts as an offsite backup drive for our photo library.
iPhone (that I use with exchange for push email and web browsing)

But the best addition is when I got these.

I have a 30GB video now called the classic. I've had it for over 2 years never had any problems.

I do go through earbuds pretty fast but i figure that is because i listen too loud. Oh and forget to turn the volume back down when i use the radio adapter. Makes them pop after i do that.
