Let's get a little action going on the forum, fellow foodies! I'm not quite sure how to get this rolling, but I had an inspiration today. I'm envisioning us doing something like an Iron Chef theme here, where we post an ingredient and peeps have to come up with creative recipes for it. Stuff we'd all actually eat, not like Cat Cora's bacon ice cream--blech.

This might be a great way to share recipes and get more people participating, kind like we've been doing with individual threads, no?

What do you guys think and how could we do it, if there's interest??

As a different idea, Genie, on another board they pick one cookbook per month as a group, then post the recipes they made from that book, and how they liked them. They'll post pictures, etc. It's pretty great b/c you get exposed to many cuisines and recipes through the different books.

A lot of the people in the group take out the cookbooks from their local libraries. We could try something like this.

I am so in. I picked up some frozen pureed purple yam and on the drive home considered making gnocci with it...dir...I just gave away an idea. Rats.

But really, I am so in. I love to buy random ingredients and build recipes around one item.

Dia, that would be a cool idea too.....almost like the book of the month reading club. Hmm....I guess the only thing I was thinking with this is that it would get us being more creative with thinking up our own ways to make stuff. But if we allow recipes, more people could play.....

Keep brainstorming, folks, we're getting there.....

I know that about half of us (it seems) are vegetarian, so i would prefer a vegetable heavy idea, not exclusively though. I know Lily has a ton of interesting meat recipes.

That's the big challenge, Meri.....there are so many more options for vegetarian based ingredients when you add in all the grains, legumes, etc.....maybe the week we do a meat ingredient someone from the veg camp can pick a veg option too, and the rest of the time we can do something neutral that everyone can play with?

OK, now do we make this a contest, like the show, maybe with a poll to vote for the winner each week, or do we just take turns picking an ingredient of the week and share the recipes?

I'll make my SO do the cooking for me...

I'm interested in it, but I'm more of a bread/pastry person so I might limit my contributions due to that. I don't mind though. I'm always interested in food, whether I make it or not.
