Son and I went to the lbs this afternoon and picked out his bike. Put it on layaway. This evening, we took hubby up with us. He wanted to take the car, since it was already warmed up, and we were still "just looking". Uh, I think we'll wanna take the van...<br><br>

Okay, so it's entry level. I think it will work very well for my son for right now.<br><br>

Very nice purchase! That bike should work well for a young rider. I ride an Allez too! It's got a few miles on, and still works great.

20 years ago that would have been a professional level bike, it's remarkable what $800 buys today. It should be a great bike for him for many years.

Yah, we went through the days of "hand-me-down" bikes. At one point, we had 15 bikes in our garage. Son's first 'good' bike was a hand-me-down from my mom--a Trek Elance. Kid started getting serious, so when he outgrew that, I got him a used Trek1000. He's taken care of those bikes, so I think he earned this new bike.<br><br>
THis bike certainly is a huge step up from my first 'real' bike. When I was about his age, I bought (with babysitting $) a Univega VivaSport. Full Suntour... But, it was good enough to get me started.
