The local wal mart has the fabric we want to use to make curtains for my son's windows. My MIL has agreed to make them if we send her the fabric. How much do I need? The window is 4 ft by 6ft and the rod is about 4 inches above the window and we want the fabric to hang below by probably 4 inches?

Thanks!

Dude! I didn't think it was the wrong word. I thought sewer was perfectly fine.

I'll try this again - these geniuses are telling me to post this when I hit the submit button.

Length - double the six feet, as you'll want to open the curtain.

Height - add eight inches, not four, on each end of that four feet. This is so you can have the rod go through the top, and to have a hem on the bottom.

So you're talking 12 feet by 51/2 feet (call it 6). Also, check the width of the material. If it's only, say 24 " wide, you'll have to do some panels.

most fabric comes on rolls 44/45" wide figure 43 /12" cut width - or wider 52/53" - 57/58" 60: - very rarely narrow goods. any fabric 24" wide usually is folded just to it can be handled easily in a retail setting, or it's a tubular knit (but, that's for the advanced class)

bottom line, you need to know how big you want the window covering and then know how wide your fabric is.

we'll discuss fabric spreading techniques in the next lecture

p.s. I'm in the gmt business
