I gotta say - I am so thankful I am finished with all the travel - it was fun for the longest time, but it has long since quit being fun - and now there is a 'National Opt Out Day' planned to protest the full body scanners.

Will this work?

Will you 'opt out'?

How will you respond to travelers who do opt out and cause you major inconvenience and possible missed/late flights as a result?

Read more about it here

It'll happen to some extent...whether it's noticeable will depend on the airport I think and number of opt-out passengers going through at one time (personally, I don't give a rat's ass myself)

I've never flown out anywhere around Thanksgiving, so I would have no idea what would be considered normal vs. really backed up. Thankfully I think I have enough time built in to get to the airport to avoid any major patdown delays

I would love to opt out, but I have nowhere to go. My dream would be to be rebellious and go two weeks without bathing and wear dirty clothes and then make them pat me down.

I can't go 1 day without bathing twice. So, it's a no-go.

Nope.. people will do it at the start and the rest will be realizing the back-up and that their flights wont' wait for them and just do what they are told. the'll wind up pulling the people aside until they realize they will be late and then just get in line with the rest of them. most people are selfish and will realize that they are just going to cost themselves time and missed flights and just stand inline. You also have to think there will be a thin line of acceptance before the TSA agents start getting evens more strict than usual. Sorry, your deoderant is 3.1 ounces or you have to check that bag as it is to big to fit in the "test" box to be allowed as a carry-on

I agree that most people are selfish. In this case, that's not necessarily a bad thing. If you need to get to Grandma's for Thanksgiving, it probably doesn't help family relations if you engage in some sort of civil disobedience and miss your flight. If too many people start opting out, then the people behind them will be willing to jump ahead and use the scanners to get thru quicker.

People will always take whichever method is faster, even if there's plenty of time for either. The airport is the classic place where people practice the hurry-up-and-wait paradigm. They want to get thru security AS FAST AS POSSIBLE so that they can sit at the gate for hours. Then once boarding starts, people climb all over each other to get on the plane AS FAST AS POSSIBLE so that they can sit in those cramped seats while everyone else boards...

The other place where the hurry-up-and-wait thing always happens is at the supermarket. The person behind you always wants to jam their entire cart-full of food onto the conveyor belt behind your stuff as soon as possible. They pile stuff up to the ceiling using every square inch of the belt. Why is that? Are they afraid somebody will jump ahead of them if they've left something in their cart for more than 5 seconds? Well, I guess that's off-topic...

I am flying that day. If I miss my flight due to this madness I will likely throat-punch a randomly selected opt-outer before forcibly disrobing them and thanking them for pilot-testing the newest opt-out protocol.

I'm flying to Denver on Wednesday. This time I am actually flying thru ATL from Toronto so I will likely miss any backups at security here. I haven't flown out of Toronto in years as Buffalo is generally a whole bunch cheaper. This one is on SkyMiles though and it takes fewer from Toronto.

Here we don't have body scans...you just take them a pic of your "privates".

Ahhh, so that's what Favre and Tony Parker were doing.

I figure in Canada you just tell the agent you're a good person and they let you through.

No. As much as I detest the TSA, if I had to fly, as long as they pay me for any pictures leaked to the web, I'm fine with it. On the other hand if they would tell me in advance who would be groping me if didn't want to be scanned I might take that option. Foreplay can be so much fun when doing it in public.
