...hey, we get a SuperBowl EVERY year,

I had

to wait

almost TWO years for this....

======

.......the Track Run started out BAD

......leg hurt,

had to stop and switch shoes,

hamstring brace wouldn't stay put.....

then Suddenly

I focused Out Ahead in The Lane,

the strides became Easy,

the pace felt Right

and I knew I could Run FOREVER......

since I have a 4/1 timer set

then the Leg Twinged,

I dropped the stix

and did 10 more

Awesome TW! Love it :D

OM - My neck & the tightness. My neck & upper back tend to lean forward (because there are some really weak muscle that support my neck). I do have 3 bulging discs in my neck, and neck tends to bunch together (if that makes sense). Muscles around neck tighten up to protect my neck, and that puts the rest of me out of alignment. Lack of exercise makes the muscles get worse, but then when I start to use them again - they freak out. Think it's just been getting worse as I get older... Its hard to manage because if they get too tight, will pinch a nerve in my neck, and if alignment gets too bad it's very painful. I do have some PT exercise that work those muscles, and am working on them, and the walking helps to work them without overdoing. Iced yesterday, and that helped, I think its just an inbetween place I have to operate in, not too much & not too little & its difficult to figure out sometimes. Last year when I did too much, it stopped me in my tracks & stopped the half marathon training. But I wanna run, so I push it (which seems like not pushing it)... the walking thing is me really trying to be patient.

Greetings, Masterfuls.

Tom, that is great news. They all count, and they're all great in the grand scheme of it all.

Three miles today in a sunny thaw. A little sore from roof-raking yesterday, but otherwise OK.

Good runs, all

Very cool tw! It DOES happen every once in a while.

Fifteen miles for me at an easy pace. A lot better than my last 15-miler last November. That one sucked.

tw - that's great news!

Sorry I haven't been posting much. Between the job, house, and a big time computer virus, I haven't been able to do my second favorite thing and keep up with you Kicksters.

Yesterday was indeed made for LSD. I ran 22 miles, taking it easy and feeling good. Sub MP for the last 6 miles. 8:41 avg pace. Then it was time for the aforementioned house work (roof raking) and then attending MIL's Birthday party. Now I'm done with work and ready to sip an adult beverage, read the paper, and then watch flickering images on the Magic Box.

Have a great afternoon everyone.

trying to decide if I will stay up and watch the superbowl.

All night effort here in the UK.

Raced today over the old 13.1. Bit of a shock for me as I was expected to run faster than 7 min mile pace for more than 19 minutes. The course was hilly and it was windy so I had a simple plan, run 6 min mile pace, lets face it to get back to 2.40 shape this is needed. End result was 79.04 with very even splits. Finished 4th overall and 1st vet.

MrsG ran in a 5.5 mile race and "chicked" the whole field :¬)

It is a good atmosphere here in the house tonight.

Yeah for TW! Congrats to G & Mrs. G!

A year ago I was flying back from Surf City while everyone watched the Super Bowl. Hope Ileneforward and SLOjim had a good day! So of course I had to include a couple of Beach Boys songs on the iPod during my run. I went to the park where The Pro and I ran when he was in town. It's 1.5 mile loop and I ran 6 so it's just about perfect for this run. 1 mi. warmup, then 3.5 mile tempo @8:26 avg., 7:11 max., and obviously 1.5 mi. cooldown. The north wind was a little intense because unfortunately, the loop runs north-south. Maybe that's why I had trouble locking in a steady tempo pace, or maybe it was the big lunch after church.

Awesome, Tom. I can't speak for all runners, but I think some of us, myself included, run not only for competition, community, and fitness,

but also to get some clean, drug-free trips away from whatever we think our usual state of consciousness is. Time can bend. We can experience grace

in movement, no-thought, creative inspiration, and have breakthroughs that border on the supernatural. When talking about breakthroughs that

border on the supernatural, my first inkling of that when I was a boy was when I watching Secretariat win the Belmont Stakes. To this day, it

is the greatest achievement by man or beat that I've seen. It was as if he was bending time and space. Those other horses were great horses as well,

but on that day, Secretariat went into hyperspace. I wonder if the horse felt something different in its own consciousness that day. In the years that followed, while playing

basketball and baseball, I would have games where time would slow down, and I couldn't miss a basket, I would hit home runs, and do these things that were very

unusual for me. Of course relative to my own abilities. Same with running. I've had some days and races that were, in terms of consciousness, amazing experiences.

Glad to hear you had a breakthrough, TW! Now let's get 'em consecutive!

Rest day for me, with a little bit of cross-shovelling.

Watched the first half of the SuperBowl over a big plate of ribs and Ceasar salad. Now to go watch 1/2 time...........................

I knew I had heard this wretched band before doing one of the most horrible shows ever on tv but I couldn't remember when it was. I looked on the wiki page about them and saw it was new years eve 2009 (actually 1/1/2010). I didn't even know who they were at the time. "I gotta feeling" is a nice song so I am sure that is why they did it at the beginning and end this evening.

I would have rather listened to this

Yay tw on a great run for you today! Hope you have more of those to come!

Hugh congrats to G and Mrs. G for their outstanding races. Very cool, guys.

Nice LR for you, Mike! We really need to run together sometime, ya know??

I didn't watch the Superbowl at all, so while I know the Packers won (saw that in the bar of the hotel, waiting for my sandwich to go order), I didn't see any of the game. I've been in Juneau the last couple of days, and while Juneau is surrounded by mountains, and contained by the ocean, the Glacier Hwy offers a very nice stretch of miles without much for hillage. Perfect for running, even with all the ice!! It was raining when we got in on Friday night, and that turned to snow during the night. Since then, it's been upper 20's and low 30's, but overcast enough to not allow any melting. So...

Saturday's run was 11.1 miles with lots of tempo action. Overall average was 7:59 pace with miles 9, 10 and 11 being 8:02, 7:57 and 7:36. Awesome. Felt great and only slipped a couple times.

Sunday's run was 21.4 miles on mostly the same route, just a little more of it. Ran out of road and hit the bike path that turned up Mendenhall Loop Rd, but didn't go all the way to the glacier. Turned around at 10.5 to head back. Very (very) icy the first and last 2 miles (the same miles, btw), so really had to watch my footing. Lots of waving arms dancing to stay upright, but it worked: no falls. 8:22 average pace today, a little faster than intended but it's so nice to not be faced with 1-2 mile uphill stretches, I love it! Some really strong wind gusts in the last 5 miles so I was glad to finish this run. Next week will be not much of anything because I'll be in Dallas for meetings and full schedule. I'll get some runs in next weekend. A nice enforced cutback week after 60.6 this week.
