This is my thousandth post. That’s a good round number and it will probably be my last post at this site. I was on the CR site and came here after the mass exodus. Most of my posts were on the Good Morning threads, but every once and a while I’d post on a different thread. There are a host of things posted here that I don’t agree with, but I read anyway. I did this to bring balance to my thoughts and beliefs. In some cases, because you offered a look on the other side of the coin, I modified my opinions. I want to thank you for that. I can honestly say there is only one person here that I truly did not like. Even though I promised myself never to read their posts I felt drawn like a moth to a flame knowing I would be upset after reading. Please forgive me for that. I also promised myself that I would not attack anyone with verbal abuse and I think I’ve kept that promise.

I wondered what my last post would be about. Would I just state that I was leaving, leave with a joke, or even just disappear. I heard this joke some time back. Three guys were killed in a car crash and were standing in from of St Peter. Peter said there’d be a little test. He asked them, “Tell me what Easter means to you.” The first guy got Easter mixed up with Independence Day. For that he got an express trip to hell. The second guy got Easter confused with Christmas. Close, but still an express trip to hell. Peter then looked at the third guy. The third guy was sweating bullets. He said, “Christ died. He was put in the grave and a big stone was put at the door of the tomb. Three days later the stone was rolled away. Christ came out of the tomb, saw his shadow and we had six more weeks of winter.”

Let me address a personal issue. My grandson is now in a different school. This is a public school designed for children with special needs. His teacher is a specialist in Autism. The class ratio is 1 to 8 and she has three assistants. His progress is remarkable. He is communicating better and his social skills are improving. The other day we had the opportunity to ride the light rail here in Minneapolis. He stood by the door and said, “Goodbye” to everyone leaving the train and “Hello” to everyone getting on the train. His sister has improved so much that we believe she will be removed from the Autism spectrum.

I’d like to mention one final thing. Tonight on 20/20 will be an article on distracted driving. I think the focus will be mostly on teens, but the principles apply to everyone. The bottom line is that only 2% of the drivers are capable of multitasking. I suppose what I’m saying is that with all the wireless devices out there, there isn’t a rational reason to text while driving or even be holding a phone to your ear while driving. Along those same lines is when you’re with someone and the phone rings or a text comes in, do you stop what you’re doing to answer the phone or text? Do you excuse yourself and say, “This is from family and I should take it?” What kind of message are you sending to the person your with. I can tell you that if you are with me you will take priority over any text or call that comes in with the exception of a family member. The telephone has no rights. That’s why voice mail was invented.

I guess that’s about it. Let’s see a confession, a joke, some personal information, and a rant. That’s not bad for a last post. I’ll probably be back from time to time to lurk or check on a PM but for now I’ll just say . . .

Happy Trails,

Well I'm taking the attitude that this is your "1000th post" and not a goodbye post, but maybe a "see ya later post"
