I thought maybe by sharing my fear of OW swims, I'd begin my journey to empowerment. Maybe???

So, I have this fear that I'll stick my head down into the water and find someone looking back at me. It really doesn't help when this happened down the hill from where I live and way too darn close to where I do my OW swims. This poor guy was floating around in the water for a couple of months before he reached the surface.
http://archives.seattletimes.nwsourc...ake+Washington

Tammy: I get the heebie jeebies too! Last summer during a training swim I swam over a REALLY big snapping turtle.......good news, my speed really picked up at that point! LOL

I think it is one of those things that the more you do, the better it is. Good luck!

Oh good gosh I have previously had no real OW swimming fears, but that image will be seared in my brain for a long time!

Shouldn't be a huge deal for me... I'm slow, so people in front of me would already notice that, I'd have plenty of warning. Unless I'm last, and the swimmers-generated current is pulling the body after the group, and it's catching up to me!! and I can't swim any faster!!

yeah--I am afraid of OW swims too--BUT since I am slow--my positive thinking tells me that all the splashing and kicking ahead of me will scare anything out of the way by the time I get there???

You just have to block your fears. As soon as you start to think those nasty thoughts immediately force your self to think of something else. Really, as Julie says the more you do the easier it gets.

Don't have to worry about that here, at least in the bay. The water's too murky.

Agressive sea lions, on the other hand...
