So I'm running on the middle school track. .7 miles from the house, just perfect distance.<br><br>
Well, I'm about 2/3 done and this cruiser pulls up with his lights on. It's like 11am. I kind of look at him strange but finish my 800. Cop gets out and walks past the small pond from all the ice melts (and isn't happy about that) and starts giving me a hard time!!<br><br>
Cop: "What are you doing here"<br>
Me: "Uh... running"<br>
Cop: "Why are you on the school track"<br>
Me: "Uh... running"<br>
Cop: "What's that weapon" (pointing at my "stick" as in the "the stick"<img alt="wink.gif" src="http://files.kickrunners.com/smilies/wink.gif"><br>
Me: "It's for stretching"<br><br>
and some other equally exciting banter. In the mean time this five foot nothin, 250lb woman comes huffing out and asking "what's going on what's all this about"<br><br>
Cop: "Ma'me, this man was trespassing on the track"<br><br>
At which point she goes off on him yelling about "don't you have better things to do" and "he's here all the time" and "go bust some speeders" and so on<br><br>
The gym coach (I think) comes out some point during this and just watches. I say noooooothin.<br><br>
Finally she told him to "SHOOO. Go away and do something useful, I don't have time for this" and she looks at me and says "you run anytime you want honey, even if it is freezing!" (ok, it was 46 felt AWESOME to me).<br><br>
Cop left like a dismissed 8th grader. Gym teacher shrugged and went in after her.<br><br>
I swear I couldn't stop laughing funniest damn thing I've ever seen.<br><br>
The cops around here are GREAT, don't get me wrong, but this guy had to have been a rookie looking for an interesting "bust" or something.<br><br>
I continued my workout... just a little bummed I didn't get a speeding ticket while running <img alt="sad2.gif" src="http://files.kickrunners.com/smilies/sad2.gif">

Now that is funny. Your last comment reminds me of a story my father once told me.<br><br>
Only a year in a new country, my father, who was born in Germany, was out in Colorado touring about when he came across another German. The other king kraut was on a bike and decked in gear. He looked as if he hadn't seen a shower in seventy days. As if kinship merely for speaking the same language and coming from the same country, the biker German and my dad quickly made friends. They chatted and, because the biker kraut was in town for a few more days before moving on to the next state, they decided to hang out a bit together. It was at a dinky pub over dinner when this guy told my father that he was cycling across a large part of the country. But he was perplexed at this new land in how the police were. He asked my father if it were a common occurrance to get pulled over by a police car when you were doing 5 mph over the speed limit on a steep descent... on your bike. The guy had been pulled over by a cop and ticketed for speeding down a moutain road on his bike. Although no bearing on the story, it was a year after he told me that when I bought my first real road bike for $125 dollars, all of which were earned from tips by delivering flowers.

"The weapon" - that is funny!<br><br>
BTW, is running on a school track considetered to be 'tresspassing'? I pay tax for the city/school district!! I run on a nearby high school track all the time, somtimes students come out for their class in the middle of an interval (goodness they have a outdoor PE class right after lunch?!). Talked to the teacher to make sure it was ok for me to continue - he was cool, saying 'hope they don't get in your way'.

Yeah, what's next? Riding your bike on public roads 40 miles from home? Where does it end, Ron, where?!

In defense of the copperino...they take trespassing at schools seriously. At least around here they do.<br><br>
For all they know Ronbo coulda been a child predator and Chris Hanson woulda popped up.<br><br>
A few years back some psycho came to a school near mine and beat a 4th grader over the head with the claw of the hammer. The voices in his head told him to do it.<br><br>
Just sayin'

Too funny! Cops generally don't bother people like that unless there was a complaint.<br><br>
Near me is a middle school dirt track and a high school with a nice rubberized track. People use both facilities all the time. I always avoid using these tracks if the kids are outside. On my daily runs I see cops all the time and wave at them. I even flagged one down last week because I saw some bullets or shells on the road and thought they should look at it.

"Sir, is that a weapon."<br><br>
"Yeah, it is. A weapon in my never ending war on tight calves! With it I dispense relaxing justice!"

Funny now, especially as there were school employees there to vouch for the legitimacy of you being there.<br><br>
But, Tithers is right.....<br>
depending on the school and the district....sometimes when school is in session, tracks are off limits.<br><br>
HOWEVER it is painfully obvious that you had permission to be there and that that cop was a little....<br>
confused, shall we say.
