I have spent all week making over a pair of chairs I found at the dump. They were really really nasty looking but sturdy and I thought I saw some potential.

So I painted about 9 million coats of really bright green paint ( well 4 coats maybe) and added some fabric seats ( fabric also from the swap shop at the dump ... AND I think they turned out simply fabulous!

How much sanding and/or stripping was involved?

What kind of paint did you use? Primer + spray?

I'm a paint-idiot...need people to 'splain this stuff to me.

I cleaned them with bleach and a nylon scrubby first, then lightly sanded. I didn't prime them .. I actually painted them a darker kely green first with spray paint ( Much easier, better coverage, faster and smoother! ) I have wanted the bright green but couldn't find it in a spray.. then I happened on exactly the color I wanted in the Oops box at the hardware store and painted them with a brush .. thus the many coats. I think Spray paint is the way to go unless you plan to sand and make the item "primitive- shabby chic.."

I have been perusing a web site call My Repurposed Life ( http://www.myrepurposedlife.net/ ) wher she show a lot of make overs of old furniture. It has me bringing home more strays from the dump than I should!

I am repainting a yellow metal tea cart - very deco- with the gold glitter plastic wheels and chrome handles.. it also was headed for the dumpster. Not sure what I will do with all this stuff.. sell it or give it away I guess!
