But as I am trying (to no avail) to focus on work, I stumbled back over to kick and see many who I don’t see on FB anymore.

My Dad died 9 days ago. Two days after I did the PanMass I found out he was diagnosed with Lung Cancer (weird timing!). We were all scared but it turned out it was Stage 1 and the surgeon thought he could cure him. The surgery was 6+ hours long but all went well. He was recovering and doing well, saw the surgeon for a check up on Friday the 30th. Then Saturday things took a turn for the worse and he was rushed by ambulance to the hospital. I drove the hour to my hometown with DH and met my Mom, Sister and Brother there. They were able to stabilize him and both the surgeon and his pulmonologist referred to it as a “bump in the road”. We were obviously ecstatic and drove the hour back home. 30 minutes after walking in the door we got the call that he was “coding”.

Julie, I am so sorry. Sometimes I don't know what to say. This is one of those times. I know how much your dad meant to you, so really, I am truly sorry for your loss. Please be strong. For yourself and your family.

There really is nothing right or wrong...........I've learned that through this, just knowing that people care and are feeling for you is a comfort.

What I have learned through this is to continue to keep thinking of all the happy memories, I'm so lucky to have them. They don't erase the pain but make it easier to bear.

So sorry, Julie - but glad that you have many happy memories to share. My dad died 21 years ago today - so there weren't enough of them. All I can say is that it gets easier in time, and your children were lucky to have known him (and vice versa). Judging how by full of life you are, he must have been fun to be around.
