Since I have started running I have noticed that my left arm hurts. It is a spot right below the shoulder and it feels like someone socked me really hard a couple of hours ago. Just a dull pain. It is not there just when I run either, it is constant. Any ideas?

Maybe you are holding some tension in your shoulders as you run? Even seasoned runners can slide into that bad habit, especially when they get very tired. Try making a conscious effort to release the tension from your upper body while running. All the work should be happening below the waist.

Pretty much agree with Radial.<br>
Are you carrying your arms high?<br>
Forearm approx 90% to upper arm, relaxed elbow.<br>
Are you clenching your fists?

Budude, a couple years ago, everytime i hit 9 miles on my run (really weird) i got pain in my left shoulder (scary at first) and it was tendonitis. Some massage and acupuncture cleared it right up, it came back once last year and a massage cleared it up.

Very interesting. My left arm just below the shoulder joint has been hurting for 4 months or so now. I'm going to have my doctor check it next week. But being the left arm and having a history of heart attacks in my family it has been unnerving sometimes.

I carry gloves to prevent making fists for the same reason. But I still carry high and can get knots in my neck. I'd describe the feeling as the same, like I was just given a shot in the arm and it's weak and sore<br><br>
Imagine this conversation after doing a short warm-up before a race.<br>
Me to husband: "I can't run today. it hurts."<br>
hubby "what hurts"<br>
me :"my arm"<br>

I used to get this right on the back on my shoulders, it would feel like something really tight or maybe a knot. I'd windmill my arms in arm circles and other things to listen up your shoulders while you are warming up.<br><br>
Example - W's to V's. Put your elbows down so each arm makes a V, therefore making a W. Then straighten out the arms over your head making a big V. It helps me loosen up my shoulders.

I get this sharp pain in my right shoulder when I run sometimes. I can totally tell it's when I carry my arms scrunched up. But right now I am battling some carpal tunnel-y stuff in my right arm, and it's making this pain worse. Now it hurts when I run more often and it kind of aches the rest of the time. I'm not sure what to do.<br><br>
I may see if massage helps. I wish I lived closer to Meri, she could fix me up! <img alt="smile.gif" src="http://files.kickrunners.com/smilies/smile.gif">
