The French Lieutenant's Woman is being watched at my homestead, entirely against my will.

It blows.

Anyway, It's a movie within a movie. The characters are making a movie. And that's the movie.

The only other cinematic "turducken" I can remember is Day For Night.

Can you think of any others?

Do plays within plays count? No?

Oh well, what about

"The Purple Rose of Cairo"?

Canada's own "Strange Brew"?

"The Player"? Robert Altman at his cynical best.

There was The Cameraman, that 1920's Buster Keaton movie which I'm sure you've all seen.

Buster plays a movie projectionist who falls asleep and dreams himself into the movie he was showing.

Pale Fire by Vladamir Nabokov is a damn fine novel buried in a poem.

The Crying of Lot 49 by Thomas Pynchon has an extended play within the novel.

I like crappy horror/crime novels, and a lot of them are about writers trying to write novels and mixing with nasty killer-folk. Misery by Steven King. The Hook by Donald Westlake. Worst Nightmares by Shane Briant. The Death List by Paul Johnston.
