So... I finally took off my Ironman wristband. 2 weeks post race and I'm out of my "no decision zone".

I figured y'all are a bunch of enablers, so I'd let you help enable me.

I've been sniffing around looking to maybe do an Xterra... or three... Problem is the locations are not nearby. Looks like Michigan is done. There is 2 in Indiana, one is 7/26 (too soon) other 8/13 (be in Vegas). Crap. So there is one in Illinois (8/20) and another in Wisconsin (8/27). That seems to be it. Really? Never realized how RARE.

PROBLEM: I do not have a mountain bike. Last year I was HARDCORE (translation - idiot) using a cross bike.

I was thinking about doing Cross this fall.. they have a bunch of dates which could work....

PROBLEM: My Cross bike is too big. I know that now. Maybe I can blame my last few seasons weak ass performance on that? it's still fun...

Or maybe a Marathon? There's one in Florida at some theme park in January... I need to see Grandma again anyway... or is that too soon?

Or maybe a Goofy Challenge? Maybe not smart considering my lack of run base... DW could do the 1/2 and I'd pace her... then do the full Sunday.... Hmmmm....

PROBLEM: Who'd watch the kids on Sat.

Or maybe.... who knows what?

So... Enablers... do you thing. Enable me.

I definately think 3wk is not too soon to enjoy Xterra! You know what to expect on Xterra. Can you borrow a mtb from somebody?

Cross season is waaaay far from now. Marathon in Jan? - that is like a century away. Your body is stil recovering, even non-ironman can understand that. This is the time you can have some serious fun without worring about training, placement, time, and all that.

One vote for Xterra Versailles IN!

(I will see you there )

Couple of thoughts...

Three weeks *IS* too soon to race something like Xterra. You could do it, and you would get through it physically fine, but the thing with Ironman is the mental hangover. You are on cloud 9 right now, and that will continue, but to do another event, to push hard in something long, could -- note word *could* -- spell major burnout. So just be careful.

I would do what it fun for the rest of the season and then perhaps do Disney Marathon. Forget Goofy. I don't know that you are in the run shape to enjoy goofy in that way. Maybe you are. That's your call. You would certainly have enough time to train properly on the run for it. But because you haven't run many marathons... I'd say stick with just the marathon and watch the kids as honey runs the half.

Just be careful about doing crazy long workouts in the next month to two -- from now, not from IM date. Because those, for most, just drive the stake in deeper. And forget the silly notion others tossed around about IM later this year. Rest up, and if you want another IM, do it next year or, better yet, take a year off and then hit it the next (2013).

This is your time to have some fun, mow the lawn, drink beers on your deck, and enjoy the free time that you now have while doing things on the swim, bike, and run that you have ignored due to dedicated training. And don't feel badly about dropping a sport for a while if other activities draw you away. You will pick it back up.

I say do an IM, but if you do, you are crazy. I was beat for like 2 months, but I had to demo and load a 30 yard dumpster 2 weeks POST IM and while Monica's hips were still a problem, so it was UGLY. Enjoy your downtime. talk to CC.. make sure not to regain all the weight, but don't plan on TOO much. As Thor said, you want to enjoy it, so don't kill yourself.

I vote marathon. I did IMCDA in 2009 then ran Boston April 2010. It was my first stand alone marathon and I felt I had plenty of recovery and right now it is giving me better perspective on my run training for IMAZ which I could have used for IMCDA. Then in 2013 think IM again.

For the rest of this season do things just for the fun of it. In 2009 I did a sprint that Sept. just because they gave out whoopie pies and beer at the end of the race I did an oly in August because the bike course was flat and the team got to rack their bikes together in transition. I did not think about time and just enjoyed the fitness I worked hard to get and picked things because they made me smile.
