So, I have 5 weeks (or maybe a month) until the Grand Rapids marathon and I think I might really have an actual factual stress fracture. Why me?! I've only been running 3 measly days a week! I can't win.

I'm going to cross-train for two weeks and see what happens.

I am in the exactly same boat. I just went to the doc's yesterday and am on crutches. MCM is 5 weeks from now. I DID NOT GIVE UP YET. I was also running only 3 days/week, coming back from my old nasty hip injury.
I'm doing water running, and some stationary biking with the boot.
Yes, it awfully sucks. I was really pissed off yesterday asking: WHY ME? WHY NOW?
Then, I had to stop crying and get going...
Where is your SF?

So, you're going to still run MCM?

It's my tibia.

In my head and my heart? YES!
But I will do what the doc says. He said I caught it right away. He couldn't even see it in the imaging yet (too early even for an MRI) but the bone margins show some stress changes. He wants to repeat the x-ray next Tuesday.
He's been treating my hip injury and just shook his head at this one: you're crazy...
I asked: Just say yes or no. CAN I DO IT?
He said: It's possible.
Possible to me means YES. My PT said same thing: Possible. So double yes so far in my head.
I am cranking up the XT and core just to get moving and try to keep my fitness up.
It's really hard. I am very sad, but I will only stop if they give me the final sentence.
If I miss MCM, I am still signed up for Richmond 2 weeks later, although MCM is the big baby...

How extensive is it? Are you still in eval?

Eh, I still don't have insurance, so I haven't gone to an actual doctor; however, I can't walk briskly without pain in one spot and when I run, the pain never goes away and I did the hop test and it hurt on the injured leg.

I think the fact that I was wearing the wrong shoes and the shoes had too many miles on them is how I got to this sad point.

My marathon and your marathon are both on the same day and I, too, have yet another marathon 3 weeks later. I don't want to bag my first one, but I guess I might have to.

insurance sucks... I am having to pay most of my costs... it's ugly stuff.
do you have access to a pool?
It's boring as hell, but at least water running as a good XT... I hope you heal quick.

No pool, plus I am afraid of the water. Heh. It'll just be me and the recumbent bike for the next few weeks. I'm already trying to plan ahead and see what other marathons I can do in the area early next year as I've pretty much given up on the two this year.

well, just keep moving. It's tough when you can't measure how extensive the problem is...
I soooooooo feel your pain.
I know I am in denial, but I have a feeling I'll probably have to bag MCM too...
