Since the other one got so long, I figured I would start a new thread about Umstead.

So my prep for the 50 is going nicely, I am looking forward to seeing everyone there.

Toxic Runner and runirishnc I see you guys are doing the U Trail in March. I'm in too, but I am sure I am waaaaaaaaaaaaay slower than you guys...
anyways... I'll probably be there tomorrow in the am for a mid-long...
Umstead Trail Marathon, on March 8th. I just signed up couple weeks ago on the second registration. Difference from the Umstead100/50 in terms of the course is that this one has a bunch of single track trails. It's mixed.

If you are up to running really slow just for the heck of it, I can plan for a later run on a Saturday (DH works on Sundays).

Oh, and BTW, if you don't have special plans for next weekend, we are running what I call the Crazy Loopy Marathon, it's the Valentine's Massacre Marathon, which consists of 16 loops of 1.6 miles, in Greensboro, NC. Alemma, Batmomm and I are doing the full, Nicole1650 (who's also crewing at Umstead in April) is on a 2-person relay.
It will be a training run for me. Course is paved... I think...
And it's cheap too... $25
SGH, I did some hiking one time in some parts of the single tracks. They are rooty, but I wouldn't call them super technical (although I've never seen the real badass trails).
But definitely it makes total sense to stay away from the crazy stuff til you smash Boston
I'm always in for Saturday plans and Alemma, Batmomm, Nicole and I are always hunting in the hood for some race/partying. We'll def let you know.

well, and since we're talking about it... ... I'm pretty much in for the Grandfather's Mountain Marathon in July... http://www.hopeformarrow.org/gmm_profile.jpg ... just sayin' ... think about it...
done with the hijacking... sorry
Umstead was nice this morning... gorgeous, clear skies, temps on low-mid 40s... couldn't have been better...
I did "the loop" and some add-ons to get to my 15 and kept telling myself "ok, Ty, you just need to do this 4 times and you'll be all set"... 4 freakin times???? it still doesn't fit inside my head. Better find some brain room soon.

Nicole1650 is coming to crew too...suggestions of what she could bring?
I think Nicole has a camping stove... I'll check with her.

Today I ran at Umstead and met Charles. He was running a 16 miler and struggling with ITBS... we chatted for about 2 miles. He is signed up to pace 12.5 miles overnight. It didn't occur to me to ask if he hangs out here... He was good company.
*bump*

done with my last hard weekend. Did 32 yesterday at Umstead and 15.2 today in the hood(was supposed to be 18, but I ran out of time. good'nuff)
... and the taper starts...
I am struggling with my health, working on some bad news that require some lifestyle health adjustments and really working hard on not wasting all my training. Umstead Trail was a good alert for my new weaknesses. Taper comes in a good time. I have faith and really hope things will stay under control on race day.
