Regarding em's comment about not wanting to know if someone has freckles on their butt. If your running partner/someone you run with on a somewhat regular basis showed up in cycling shorts/tights that were a bit thin in the seat, would you tell them?

LOL! So if you can read the news paper through your shorts, it's time to replace them?

I had a pair of light blue Zoot shorts that I wore all the time. Super comfortable, went with several jerseys and all that. Well, one day son1 and I were packing up to head to a team practice. Son1 hemmed and hawed and suggested I not wear those shorts. Well, why not? Uh, they're a bit thin in the back. You're kidding me. How long? Uh, a while...

I've struggled with this. I would GLADLY tell any of my dude friends - and razz them - but ladies... ummm... that's a no win for me. If I tell them, then I look like a perv. If I don't tell them, I'm not a good friend. I usually tell one of the OTHER ladies to tell the thin-you-have-freckles-on-your-butt woman that she's thin.

But strangers... If it's a hairy dude butt I just try to drop him. If it's a pretty lady butt I think chivalry says I must closely follow so the exposure is not disclosed to the world.. ya know, it's all about the chivalry

This summer just a few weeks before IMC, dh and I were out for a ride with him riding behind me. I was wearing the shorts I had planned to race in. After we got back to the car he said ummmm....I have to tell you something but I don't know if I should or not. So of course, I demanded that he tell me. Well, umm, err, well, your shorts are really see through at the back but I didn't want to tell you because I know you want to wear them at IM.

Glad he told me, but darn it, those were my best shorts for riding long distance and had long been discontinued.
