Chops, while I see you on the board, can you tell me whether running along the canal again is an option ? Have you tried ? Is it still snow bound ? Dirty, wet, isn't a problem if its accessible . Thanks tall one 'fly

Ottawa's new course is harder than the one I ran in 2003, and interesting enough. But it's not as hard as Quebec's or San Diego's or Honolulu's. It's certainly not punishing though ... Barbados Marathon is punishing. I started crying at the 17k marker.

Canal report: 24h ago, definitely not ready for abuse. Large crusty & thick snowbound areas (mostly in the shades).
Last night, I dreamed about running.. very lightly, almost on tiptoes.. barely touching the ground.. pleasant rush

Hey Sally, thanks for the encouraging words. I don't have the natural exuberance or positve outlook that you seem to have. I know I am more ready than I have ever been to run a marathon, but it looks painful as hell and my recent pneumonia has made me fragile, mentally and physically. meh.

Mister Lambchops, I hear you about giving it your best. That's what freaks me out.

Canal may be chunky with ice, but the bike path along the Verdun/Lasalle/Lachine waterfront is clear. This makes me happy.

Alright, what according to you is "my gift", besides utter refusal to believe I can't do something. Hang on, wait, Grommit's the same way ...

I totally believe I can't do anything right.

I start a new position at work in a few weeks. I had two offers but ended up taking the one at work. Great oppurtunity to increase my knowledge base and open up a whole new area of future possabilities.
That's the feedback I got from this movie too... too cliché. I did not dish out the bucks to see it. Sounds like 2h long commercial to me...

Yeah, but it's got to be something that interests me ... not something that MLC chooses . To get speed would mean forsaking all my 14 other activities as well as killing my bunions. Anyway, I did 24:16 on the 5k part of my first sprint tri after having accidentally cycled an extra 4 km. So this means, I ran this after a 750m swim and a 24k cycle. Not bad for a girl who trained only a month for this race (cause of my car accident).

MLC: TB bugs me about this too . He can't stand that I won't go for that BQ one day. I'd rather do Kona (through the lottery of course ... I'm too slow to qualify!)

Speaking of speed, we WILL do that trackwork family picnic thing this summer ...

grommit always leaves everything on the track...... Ottawa isn't a hard marathon[merc & gag will agree, nice temps, no real hills, great support].... 3:19-2002, 3:24-2005 ........but I really don't rate these as my best races.... best races = NS half 2002 (lousy conditions) 1:31, VT50 2006, 9:27....[that's faster than IG's M best pace..... twice the distance, 8000' of accumulated elevation on trail single track.... I still don't believe it was my result]
I've been known to train a bit....sometimes maybe even push it to the edge....and over... but lately life is just trampling all over my flower bed

anyways sally, as i understand it you don't have to actually have a qualifying time (a la boston) for kona...... so you're in with a chance
FWIW.... they've changed the WS100 lottery rules..... so if I'd have put my name in the hat for the last two years(which I didn't).... I'm not sure if I'll ever get to run that one now.... to old, too tired .... wtf!

try harder......

Sounds like Gro is about to punish himself again this weekend....some sort penance no doubt. Have fun kid! You too Truxxy / Roly. Make the man work out there!

I was just reminded that I have pre-registered for the "Run for the Toad" in Cambridge, Ontario (where-ever that is!) on Oct. 4th. I am in the Half-Marathon Trail. Is that not near the VT50? I believe that was the weekend or two before? Oh oh. I really wanted to try it, but.........

Beats me why you’re so hard on yourself Roly, you’ve got Grommit for that… (I'm going to pay for this I know) congratulations on the job...nice to know you’ve got what it takes to get two good offers and it’s a matter of making a choice.
Went out with little df last evening for a run/walk/waddle and saw plenty of runners, like the night before. Finally getting some decent weather to train outdoors, I got a big grin from a chap when he caught sight of mon poussin chuggin’ along on my heels.
Have an excellent weekend everyone, good luck to the racers this weekend – St Laurent on Sunday ..I think. fly
Sally: Why not try to qualify? Speaking of running after biking... Some people might actually run better after biking (ie: me). Ok not all out pure speed as for a track race but I take a LONG time to warm up and my runs after biking have been faster (more leg speed) than just getting up and running, even after a run warm up.

Which brings us back to the original question. Lottery schlottery. Go for a qualifying time. It`s the only way to do Kona, IMO. (and Boston for that matter). Training to finish is a great first goal.

To qualify, I'd have to do top of my age group for qualifying events. I don't think I'm ready yet to do that 11-hour Ironman. After IMC, I had an Ironman friend tell me that I'd be able to get to Kona if I seriously trained ... he was amazed at what I did with so little training. Maybe one day when my life has less potholes.

Roly: Congrats on the new job ... will you be working the same crazy hours?
