400 years ago Claudio Monteverdi wrote a piece that might never have been intended to be performed in a church, it was most likely a show-off piece written to get a job in Rome.

That said, it is a work of art that I have always always wanted to see performed live. It's a biotch to get together though, because it is written for instruments that very few people play today, theorbo, sackbutt, cornett... and it requires a setting where voices can perform in various locations "hidden" in the hall.

I got a note a couple of weeks ago from a local performer who is helping to organize a performance next week. She also hosts the Sing Along Messiah that we enjoy every year. Unfortunately the performance is the same night as our quartet is singing at a local folk club. I wrote to her something along the lines of "Drat, drat, drat!"

Last night she wrote back and invited us to the dress rehearsal where we will essentially have the hall to ourselves. A couple of family members of the choir will attend, but this is like a dream come true, a command performance!

A small thing, but given my current state of health and being it made my evening and even today I am sailing.
