Good Monday morning, all.

Terrible news in Chicago. It's too bad that road racing makes the news only when something like this happens.

Good morning gang. I debated last night before bed about whether to run today. My achilles has been feeling much better, but I can still move it in such a way to cause discomfort. I awoke to a cold rain and decided to do my mat exercises and see what happened with the rain. Come 6:20, voila, the rain was done...so I was out the door for a total of 3.65 miles (3 of them running).

KS, you're really up there with the mileage. You're racking them up for your VRAA team. (And I just went back and checked on the VRAA thread...Millbot's not far behind KS. You two are running machines!)

Very sad news about Chicago yesterday. I agree with tw and Millbot, though, about the anti-running sentiment.

Hiyas, ran 3.1 this morning. It was a delightfully not humid 70. I was heading to do weights but I think I'll do that later since I just ate a big bowl of cereal with peaches and a piece of banana. Also told one of my bike club neighbors I'd do a lunchtime ride with her. She was off for a month and was having a hard time keeping up this weekend so it will be a slower pace if we do go.

Looking forward to next weekend's Boomer meetup in Hartford.

I get to run today for the first time in 6 weeks. Woohoo! (hopefully my foot will cooperate, that would be nice...) 3 slow miles planned on the treadmill. Gotta start somewhere.

Nice runs so far everyone, and swim for you Pro. It was nice talking to you yesterday.

Special shout out to runinb - we injured need to stick together!

Hello to all, today is a rest day for me as I ran an unscheduled 4 miles yesterday at the Portland marathon.

Best wishes labduck on your return to running today. Take it easy.
You too Marie, I thought you were not going to run for a while because of your Achilles .

At the risk of sounding ungateful, it could warm up a bit here in Oregon

I'm glad you get to run today Lab - nice and easy does it! I really really hope your foot feels good and doesn't give you any problems.

This week is going to be challenging for me to get in much running, but with my HM only two wks away I need to fit it in where I can. Not to mention I can't let my VRAA team down!! DH leaves tomorrow for a week, so logistics are harder to work out since I'll be 'single-momming' it for a week.

Hi everybody! A 3:47 at Portland yesterday, slightly slow for me, but any day I can watch SS blow past me at mile 23 is a good day.

Still a bit sore, lots of stretching and then some TM work and weights this evening. I need to patch things up before the next race on Sat.

I'm rooting for Labduck's return too. Some of us are talking about putting on a Fatass marathon/50K on the banks/Vernonia trail sometime in Jan if you're interested.

Hiya Labduck! I hope your foot holds up for your TM run today. One of the things I have found difficult in coming back from injury is discerning which pains are normal "getting back into shape" and which ones are "whoa, better stopwatcherdoing!"

Johnny, I had planned to take a week off running. I guess you caught me cutting 7 days down to 4. This running stuff is a real affliction - I just couldn't stop myself! Truly, my achilles is feeling better. I will watch out and take more time off if today turns out to be a setback. <crossing my fingers>

You know, I might be interested in this. I have two questions: Which direction would it be run in (I think from Vernonia to Banks is downhill)? And do you think it could be a qualifier for Boston?

Btw, it was great seeing you again on both Saturday and Sunday! You were looking great when you blew by the aid station.

Hi all,
Back from the Adirondacks with hubby to celebrate our 3rd anniversary. We couldn't hike due to my ripped calf but we did a very slow 1 mile meander into the woods to a lake where we picnic'd with the dynamic duo (Truffle & Remy, our french bulldogs). Ate ourselves silly all weekend too. I used a cane, on the advice of the orthopedist, and it really did help a lot. I'll post a link with my pics later on, when they're downloaded. We also took a gondola ride to the top of Whiteface mountain, and we drove to Middlebury VT where I bought a really cool hippie-type shirt.

I've decided to concentrate on free weights & upper body work while my calf is recuperating. I have a follow-up appt with the ortho. in 2 weeks and then I can start phys therapy again. Hopefully by Christmas I'll be waddling along on the treadmill again.

Hope everyone had good races and workouts this weekend. I haven't disappeared - I'll be popping in now and then to keep up!

Hey Hippo

Nice seeing you again and getting a chance to talk at dinner Sat night. I'll second what the duck says, you did look awfully good (but not as good as Souci ) when you fly by the aid station.

Where is the banks vernonia trail & when would this event be held??. Banks sounds vaguely familiar from H2C.

ETA: I should have googled this first, it's evidently an abandoned RR right of way from veroninia to banks. conflicting reports as to it being 13 or 21 miles, so you must have some out and back involved. Sounds cool.

Sounds like a nice weekend Susan, good luck on the PT Xtraining. BTW what is a hippie shirt??

Susan, I think what Johnny meant to ask was, "Do they come in pink?"

I love this area. I drove through Vernonia when I went on a girlfriends retreat at some lake about 15 miles outside of Vernonia. Can't remember the name, but this was such a pretty area. I'd love to run up here sometime.
