Yesterday I did 5 EZ yesterday before meeting up with the extended family for holiday brunch. I'm about to go out for a GA 6 now. I'm taking a few days off from work to tend to house projects, including installing a new stockade fence in the backyard. I think I'll use that as a substitute for my gym w/o this week.

Rip, it is interesting how some ellipticals are "harder" than others. Usually the difference is between models or brands, but sometimes noticeable within the same model. We have 4 of a certain style of Precor (with the moving arms), and I always try to use the same machine. There are some other models that have a more "circular" motion and I don't like those at all... too bouncy or something. But the mileage for what feels like the same effort is different on all of them, it seems. So... I get in a rut and try to always use the same one.

Wow, some of you guys are sure getting the carpy weather out there. Sorry 'bout the mud foiling your Dirt plans, tomwhite. Sounds like Plan B is in order, whatever that might be. Got a track with rubbarized surface you can use?

Mike, taking time off to work around the house sounds like a good idea. I keep telling myself I should do that, but never do. Guess I feel indispensable around here.

Congratulations on that 20 mile trail run, Heme! Sounds like a good outing, and glad the foot cooperated.

Happy Taper, ksrunr! Care to share your goals for your race? When is that again, May 1?

{{Johnny}} It'll come back. Really.

Well, I sure can't seem to shake this crud that's had me in its grips for going on 6 weeks now. Thought I was getting better, then had a relapse about a week ago (oh goodie, in time for a peak week on the training schedule!). I did get in my 10.5 miles on Saturday, at a relaxed 8:31 overall pace. It was so nice to have the bikepath on the "flatter" side of the road all cleared off and dry so I could run that route. Tired of hills all the time. Sunday, after a late night out with friends and too much "fun," I got a really late start on what was supposed to be 20 miles, for a 60 mile week. Well... I made it 15.4 miles, barely, after a couple of stops and rest breaks. DH met me at mile 9 with some Gu Chomps and water, then I stopped at his office (mile 10.6) for more and some tea. Struggled out the door for another few miles that I planned pretty well... outbound was gradual uphill with a headwind, coming back was down with tailwind. Mile 14 was 7:57 and mile 15 was 8:02. Gotta love that... should've planned the whole run that way.

So, I thought about rearranging my schedule to get that 20 miler in this week, and decided no. Not gonna do that. "Don't try to make up missed miles" was something I (should've) learned in my first marathon training gig 6 years ago. I need the cutback/recovery week. I'm sick and tired, and sick of being sick and tired. Plan for this week? Early bedtimes, easy runs and maybe not even 40 miles total. Hope it works.

Hi everybody.

Of course its raining here again. We've had like 7 nice days the whole year. I have been waiting 3 weeks to fix a gutter that the ice took down this winter and the whole soffit and fascia were rotten so I set up my scaffolding and started working on that in the intermittent rain. Got a little more than half done.

I am on day six of a headache from the muscle I pulled in my back and my left foot is still hurting as well as my left ankle being tight too. In other words, I have been feeling like carp except my energy level is great since I haven't been working out as much (taper) I am still planning on doing a 20k trail race this weekend if I feel just a little better. I may even do it if I don't. It wouldn't make me feel any worse. I know my running muscles will be well rested

Heading to the fitness center to get on the eliptical and see if I can get an hour in.

The visit to the doc was fun. He said, "The moment of truth has arrived." He poked my foot, we discussed my progress and he proclaimed me healed. "You've graduated. Congratulations!" he said. "Let pain be your guide." If my foot hurts again, it's back in the boot. I was so happy to bring that thing home & put it in the garage!

I ran 0.75 miles when I got home, then I ate a bit and went off for the group bike ride, about 24 miles. http://connect.garmin.com/activity/81630200

Hi Rip, KS, Mike, Erika and TW!

I'm off this week for a few days as well, also with the hopes of getting in some badly needed yard work. My garden's grown to the point that it takes about 3 full days just to do all the edging needed, what with all the grass and creeping charlie that has to be grubbed out of the fringes. And of course we're now facing three full days of heavy rain, just to make the job even more fun. Will probably give up on a couple of the beds for this year..... we've had roofers in for the last week and it looks like elephants have trampled my woodland garden. They'd already flattened one part with a huge pile of shingles, just as the bleeding hearts were about to sprout up. Sheesh!

So no run today, but happy that the hamstrings were loose enough to let me get a big chunk of the edging done. Also the foot is in much better shape than I'd expected..... I think the new metatarsal pads are finally solving the problem.

Tomorrow will go into the work gym and use the TM, as we're supposed to get a month's worth of rain in the next 24 hrs.

6 pleasant miles tonight. On one hand, I wish I could take time off like Heme and Mike to get my weeding, pruning, and patio powerwashing done; but on the other hand, my body wouldn't hold up for that. Anymore, I do better doing a little bit every weekend. I have almost an acre of mostly landscaped lawn and garden; although some of it is wild. It's a lot to maintain, but we're making progress toward the low-maintenance goal.

Opie! what a great day! Off with the boot!

Johnny, maybe you've just accepted your injury status and that's why you aren't itching to run. That's probably a relief; nothing worse than wanting to run and not being able to.

Rip, I've had that kind of headache - it really wears you down. You've probably already tried heat on your back - or alternating heat with ice packs - can really help. You're a trouper though - working on the gutter repair regardless and in the rain too!

Happyfeat,

I'm sure the work was what overused the muscle in the first place. I had a hard job last week where I had to drill for about an hour and a half mainly using the muscle that is now

strained. It will go away eventually.

I did get in a hard hour on the eliptical this evening. I am going to take tomorrow off from working out since I am supposed to be "tapering". I already noticed my breathing was much easier when starting my workout so I must be doing something right.
