Rip, it is interesting how some ellipticals are "harder" than others. Usually the difference is between models or brands, but sometimes noticeable within the same model. We have 4 of a certain style of Precor (with the moving arms), and I always try to use the same machine. There are some other models that have a more "circular" motion and I don't like those at all... too bouncy or something. But the mileage for what feels like the same effort is different on all of them, it seems. So... I get in a rut and try to always use the same one.

Wow, some of you guys are sure getting the carpy weather out there. Sorry 'bout the mud foiling your Dirt plans, tomwhite. Sounds like Plan B is in order, whatever that might be. Got a track with rubbarized surface you can use?

Mike, taking time off to work around the house sounds like a good idea. I keep telling myself I should do that, but never do. Guess I feel indispensable around here.

Congratulations on that 20 mile trail run, Heme! Sounds like a good outing, and glad the foot cooperated.

Happy Taper, ksrunr! Care to share your goals for your race? When is that again, May 1?

{{Johnny}} It'll come back. Really.

Well, I sure can't seem to shake this crud that's had me in its grips for going on 6 weeks now. Thought I was getting better, then had a relapse about a week ago (oh goodie, in time for a peak week on the training schedule!). I did get in my 10.5 miles on Saturday, at a relaxed 8:31 overall pace. It was so nice to have the bikepath on the "flatter" side of the road all cleared off and dry so I could run that route. Tired of hills all the time. Sunday, after a late night out with friends and too much "fun," I got a really late start on what was supposed to be 20 miles, for a 60 mile week. Well... I made it 15.4 miles, barely, after a couple of stops and rest breaks. DH met me at mile 9 with some Gu Chomps and water, then I stopped at his office (mile 10.6) for more and some tea. Struggled out the door for another few miles that I planned pretty well... outbound was gradual uphill with a headwind, coming back was down with tailwind. Mile 14 was 7:57 and mile 15 was 8:02. Gotta love that... should've planned the whole run that way.

So, I thought about rearranging my schedule to get that 20 miler in this week, and decided no. Not gonna do that. "Don't try to make up missed miles" was something I (should've) learned in my first marathon training gig 6 years ago. I need the cutback/recovery week. I'm sick and tired, and sick of being sick and tired. Plan for this week? Early bedtimes, easy runs and maybe not even 40 miles total. Hope it works.
