Go get 'em today!

I'm in my last week before Little Rock, and I'm feeling a little beat up today. I'm not supposed to feel this way at this stage of the taper phase. Well, I guess it's because I'm not doing a "real" taper, since this race is just a training run before the 50k. So if I struggle a little here, it's not the end of the world. Whatever doesn't kill you makes you stronger, right?

5 miles on the TM (overnight snow/sleet/rain mix) this morning to close out Feb. Only accrued 72.6 miles this month, mostly due to last week's lack of running. Setting the right tone for March.

Bah to TMs and off-weeks. Come on Spring!!

Speaking of TMs - that makes good sense Duck. I wish that ankle would cooperate with you some soon.

Bob - I don't know why, but I always feel like a mess during my taper until just a couple days before the race. I always think it is a good sign that my body is starting to recover.

Monday is a rest day for me, but I did arm weights this am (which I realize I haven't done in 2 weeks) and I will jump on the bike tonight for a little while. I am feeling a little beat up as I ran almost 40 miles in the last 3 days (15; 8 and change; 16.5). Oy vey. I really need to stop loading up my weekends like that.

I am hoping for a big mileage week this week. Hopefully work and family life will cooperate with that goal.

Happy Monday peeps!

I've been doing more yoga-ing than running lately. I'm just feeling more into yoga at the moment I guess. Perhaps I am just seeking some inner peace right now. I don't know what happened to my running mojo. I thought it was back after I met with that Allen guy for my fitness assessment and I ran every day and was going to see how long the streak would last. It lasted 9 days. The longest I've run since October has been about 4 miles so any long runs seem increibly daunting. I run three miles and wonder how the hell did I ever run a marathon? bleah. I feel lik a slacker.

To finish without dying. That's usually my goal. I only go for PRs every once in a blue moon, and if I'm not shooting for a PR, I really don't stress about my time. I'd love to sneak in under 4 hours. But like Charlotte (when I got a 4:03:something), I think I might just miss it again here. And I'm not going to hurt myself trying to shave off a couple stupid minutes just to get under an arbitrary round number. So I'm expecting something in the 4:05 range again...

Hmm. Partly cloudy, high of 59. Yeah, that looks good. Of course, like you say, it's early. It could change again tomorrow...

I've been trying very hard to use denial to make this go away, but it's time to admit I have some foot near the heel pain that is causing trouble. I bailed on my run with less than half a mile in this morning and spent some time on the bike instead. Felt fine during the bike, but is awful now. I've already had the massage therapist and the chiro check it out, but no clear answers or solutions. It's been mild and off and on for several weeks, but it's getting worse now. Boo!

Feb totals

23.4 run (including run/walk) miles

6 sessions with little miss evil

2 hours in the pool

plus a little yoga and elliptical time

I may need someone to look at my training plan for the pig. The week to week increases aren't that much, but if I do all of the scheduled runs for March, I will double my miles compared to February. Is that too much? Boo!

Awesome attitude!

Saturday's trainer class was either easier, or I'm getting more fit on the bike because I didn't think it was nearly as bad as past weeks have been. Apparently, I'm the only one in the class that thought so, however.

Yesterday I ran 6.65ish with my running partner. Both of us thought it was way faster and farther than it actually measured out to be. again.

Like Amichel, I'm dealing with a nagging pain that's becoming more and more troublesome. Mine is totally ITB-related. Major pain on the outside of my knee and tenderness that feels like bruising. After the run yesterday, I spent some time with my good friend Mr. Foam Roller. Hate that guy. My legs were trashed for the rest of the evening and night, but boot camp this morning wasn't too bad so maybe it did help. I'll refrain from using another I dunno smiley, even though he'd be appropriate here as well.

No time to post in both threads, so I'll report here that my uncle was struck by a car Saturday night and killed. He was walking in dark clothing on a major highway after spending a few hours in Atlantic City. No word on why he was walking back to his car rather than riding in the shuttle, as he normally did. So sad. So, so sad. I just hope he didn't suffer. The driver apparently did stop and call 911, thank goodness. It would have been so much worse if it had been a hit and run.

Shoot, I knew I forgot something.

Amichel, does your plan include recovery weeks? In other words, you wrote something about week to week increases... Is there at least one step-down week in there too?

Does the plan greatly increase the number of days you're running? If you start to feel bad or tired or pained, are there easy or recovery runs you can skip? How did you feel during February? Could you have run more?

I would go by feel, especially since you're dealing with some pain already. If week 1 doesn't feel too bad and doesn't worsen your foot/heel pain, I would attempt week 2. But be honest with yourself. If you start to get to the point of diminishing returns, back off.

Awww jeez, ((((((Theia)))))

Been MIA the last week. Not running because of back spasms. Had them under control for a few years, but they came back. Spending lots of quality time with the foam roller. But no running. Danbury HM is now in doubt. And my ortho wants to perform surgery on both hands. Looking into a 2nd opinion on that. If that goes forward, that will be 4 surgeries in a year. I am falling apart and pretty damn grumpy about it.
