Happy Labor Day!

Race today. Half marathon. Tried to win my AG, but couldn't hold off another guy who usually beats me by 4-5 minutes. He went by me with about 1.5 miles to go and I had nothing left to hang on to him. Took second. Interestingly my time would have won the 3 age groups ahead of me. I think I'll get him next time.

Have a great day.

Warm/Low 50s - Sunny and light wind. American Discovery Trail Hslf Marathon. Out and back course. Up on the out, down on the return. Ran well. Tried to get a big lead on another guy in my age group, but he passed me with about 1.5 miles to go and I couldn't hang on. Took 2nd in AG and 18th overall. This was my best time on this course by over 5 minutes.

52 mile ride - 18 avg. Southerly loop that dipped down into Mass (Amesbury). Not roads I usually ride, so a nice change of pace.

Good attitude, Don (get him next time) - and congrats on a strong race.

Me. 30 min tester run to see if I have this PF under control or not. 10min z1, 10 z2, 10 low z3. Felt GREAT. Was under 50 degrees so I'm SURE That had something to do with it! PF fine, but it always is during, tonight will be tell tale.

25K (15.56 miles) went around Cape Ann in MA.

Started at 9am, so not as cool as it was when I woke up at 5:30am. In a nutshell...hot, humid, very sunny, very hilly. NO clouds at all, not much shade. Stuck to my 9:1 run:walk long run intervals throughout. Started to knocking people off between miles 3-4. There is not water at every mile and I guess if you're not prepared for that, that's bad. My DH has done this race 3x in the past and I have taken my bike out there for a brick workout during his races, so I am *very well* acquainted with the course. Wish I could have finished stronger, but, no over-exaggeration, my shoulders felt searingly hot during the last 2+ miles. There is a *wicked* steep, short hill about 0.5 miles from the finish that I totally walked...and walked after to calm my HR before running to the finish. Really, it was "climbing stairs" steep, but only maybe about 20 stairs (?) long.

No chips/bib tags/shoe tags, so time from my watch is 2:58:17.

Enjoyed fried clam strips and fries with a coke at Woodman's in Essex, a tradition after this road race. Ice bath, gin and tonics, and sofa once I got home.

Don't know why this won't show up any larger than this...elevation gain 1056 ft, max 109 ft

For those of you in NE, this course is as punishing as the Derry Boston Prep 16-miler and maybe more so given the what the weather usually is on race day and the lack of cover from the sun on the course.

(though I realize that "major" is relative, that is the race's slogan)
