Good morning, TEAM LIT!

Some great racing this weekend from TEAM LIT, so I suppose many here will have rest or easy days ahead. Either way, an amazing way to cap the season -- and you all know who you are (IMWI... two PRs!, PumpkinBash'n... Cake!!!!, Rev3 Cedar... RonBo'd, and more).

As for me, most of you already know from FB that I won my 2nd race ever on Sunday at a 5K in upstate New York, where I was bringing back my niece to college after spending the last week at our house. Was a tiny race. Led from the start with only two or three guys as a threat. Won by over a minute, so no challengers after mile 1. Body and legs felt great for having not done the proper speed work for running a 5k. Hit mile 1 in 5:39, with one guy still on my shoulder, and powered to the finish for a 5:47 average pace, which included stopping once to make sure I was still on course only to have the guy behind me tell me I was good.

Me...

5 mile run early this morning. Legs still feeling zippy from yesterday, and I ran the course pretty fast as compared to normal, and this without even trying to.

Great day, Tri-peeps, and a hearty congratulations to all racers!

Fought off the sickies and I'm working on getting out from under the doom and gloom cloud. Dance tonight for the first time in a week. Thanks all for taking care of me this weekend. :)

Good morning everyone! Congrats, Thor, on an awesome win!!! So cool!

Some odd bug landed on me this weekend, so missed yesterdays LR...not sure if today will be a short run or day off. It always messes with my head to miss a long one during marathon training, but I know I have to move forward and just let it go.

Have a good day everyone!

Congrats again on your win, Thor! That's really really cool.

Boy is it easy to blow off the morning swim workout when you know you won't need those skills for about 8 months. So instead it's a lunchtime run (hopefully) and a bike commute home.

Awesome race Thor!! Alicia and Jen, hope you both fend off the bugs! Me, I'm working my way through this bug that's got a hold on me. Letting the antibiotics fight it and trying to take it easy. A 10-minute walk had me sweaty and dizzy and without ibuprofen I realize how bad I actually feel. Hoping for a nap as soon as Eli calls it.

Insanity Cardio Power and Resistance this morning. First day at new master's swim program tonight from 8:30 to 10pm. First 15 minutes will be dry land training. I am stoked about getting back into the pool after a three week hiatus.

Nice racing all! Glad that the weather held up for the Pumpkinman - and sounds like you all took advantage of it (and your excellent training of course) to have a great race! Nice to be able to close the New England tri season (pretty much) with such strong performances. Looks like the IMOO'ers had a really strong day as well (not to mention the mighty hammer's 5K victory - nice you could hold off the young pups, Thor!).

Out of nowhere lunchtime 5 miler for me today. This was my second run of September, ran twice in August, and three times in July - and had my fastest training run all year today (5 miles @ 7:25 pace). Enough to make me feel I'm not quite over the hill yet :) Was in the run comfort zone right away (must have been the cool weather), and popped off about 7:30 for the first mile, so kept it up till the 3 mile mark (about 7:20 pace). Ran the next mile and a quarter or so easy (8+ pace), and then picked it up for the last 3/4 mile to finish up with 7:25s.

Felt pretty good - although I'll probably be paying for it tomorrow.

Really needed the rest today after a four hour indoor session on the trainer yesterday with a 45 min run right after. Then my wife and I painted out kitchen (got done at 9:30PM last night). Ten weeks out from IM Arizona....holy crap!

Congratulations Thor on the win. It doesn't matter how small a race it is, a win is a win, and no one will ever ask how many were in the race.

You should definately look into the Assault on Mt Hood running race in Melrose on the golf course in mid December. Great race, great course, and LOTS OF FREE BEER AFTERWARDS !!

My body felt great this AM, so a swim at Walden pond this AM. It is awfully dim there at 5:45, and this was the first morning since May that I have used a wetsuit. I also had the place to myself, seeing only one other car in the parking lot when I finished at 6:45.

The rapid arrival of fall always saddens me.

At 2 PM, the body is now reminding me of what I did to it yesterday.

Hello everyone,

This is my first time posting on this forum. I'm a low-mileage runner (about 10 miles per week), a yogi enthusiast, and I take regular spinning classes. DH and I love to take hiking vacations and we've hiked through Southern Alaska, Arches National Park, small parts of Yosemite, and lots of short (6-8 mile) hikes through the Adirondacks and Blue Ridge Mountains. My gym is building a new facility and will add a lap pool, so I hope to incorporate a weekly swim into my routine starting in 2011. I was a lifeguard way back in the day (nearly 40 years ago) but haven't really swum much since then, so I'll have quite a learning curve.

I hope this is the place for me to chat with other like-minded fitness enthusiasts. I'm looking forward to hearing back from all of you. If this isn't the right forum (for example, if you're all ultra-marathoners or professional athletes), I hope someone will set me straight!

On a personal note, I'm a library director in NY and have 3 grown children.

Great job Thor! Congrats your second win.

Sounds like everyone had a great weekend racing. Can't wait to read the RR.

6 miles for me this morning. I just wasn't feeling it until I was about 3 miles into the run when everything started to loosen up and I was able to run. I almost threw in the towel 2 miles in, glad I stuck with it.

Happy training everyone

This is absolutely the right place for you. Posting workouts in the daily bread thread is the quickest way to get to know folks around these parts, and it is also a great way to get even more motivated about acheiving your own goals. Ability here ranges from back of the pack finisher to front of the pack. It's all good. Welcome!!!

Thanks man. I know about that race, and I've been eyeing it for each of the last bunch of years, but every time something comes up. Anyway, I'll be looking at it again this year. Let's touch base as time nears. Maybe my schedule will allow for it.... and I'm guessing you're in, too!

Funny because I thought of you during the race and your comments last week about dialing up a 5K with the iPod. The young pups are always a crapshoot. You really never know what you will get. Some are in a different league while others are, well, you just don't know until mile 1, because the young guys can always go out fast and hold for about a mile. That's when something will happen. Either they stay with you, or they drop never to be seen again. Yesterday, this one kid and I were chatting before the race. He looked fast and like he knew the area and course. So I started talking to him. He asked me what my 5K time was, and when I asked him back there was no answer. Then right before the gun -- like seriously two seconds -- he says, "I'm going to stay with you as long as I can." I'm thinking, 'yeah sure.' Then blow by me. Race starts and, true to word, he's on my shoulder a pace behind. We talk back and forth a bit before the pace is just too fast and breathing out of control. But he's still on my shoulder. Now I'm wondering if he is going to ride my shoulder and then make a move at mile one or two to take the win. But he stays. So I decide to push pace a bit to test if he really is legit. Because if he's holding on, I will break him. But if he's just letting me do the work, he will stay on my shoulder. By then he was four or five paces back. I heard him breathing a bit to laborious, and so I made my move. It was the last I heard of him. I hit the out and back, and now on the way back, I was shocked to see the same kid now back there jogging, with nothing left, stuck in, like, 10th place. You never know.

And hey, nice pace for you today! Pretty awesome in face as compared to the number of runs you've had. Gotta be the cycling!

Hey all, 4hr early drive home after some stretching, to get the kids to school. The school was already SO thrilled that I took them out 1/2 day fri and now 1/2 day monday to "go to an amusement park" is about all they heard. Oh yeah, and daddy did a swim/bike/run/ too - what one of them maratrithingies. Whatevea. When my kid is no longer in the top 5% of the class, I may give a crap about him missing a day of school.
