Good morning, ladies. Enjoy those rest days.

So this weekend I completed my 3rd straight 40-mile week. I don't think I've ever done that before. So I definitely need a pullback week. I'll run tonight, but it'll be shorter than my normal Monday run.

Fort hose who missed it, this weekend I signed up for my first ultramarathon, a 50k in CT in April. I'm already second-guessing myself, wondering how stupid I am...

Edit: Okay, I actually have done 3 straight 40-mile weeks before. A couple of times. In fact, in March 2008 I did 4 straight. I wonder why I didn't remember that. And I wonder why it's been 3 years since I've done it. I thought I was running more miles now. Well, I guess not...

Morning all! I've got yoga on tap for this evening and perhaps a run during the day (working from home for a bit) if I can squeeze it in. Happy to have a month above 200 mi again, it's been awhile.

boB - nice miles and congrats on committing to the 50K!

Mindi - great month for you too, congrats! Which trainer did you end up going with?

Yay for the over 200 miles as well!

I am impressed with all of you gearing up for ultras this Spring!

- I hope you feel better today. That nastiness went though my house in December. Take a couple days to regroup and rehydrate if you need to.

I ended up getting the Fluid 2 Cycleops trainer. Our local Trek store had it on sale and bundled it with the mat, extra tire to use with the trainer, sweat guard and block. So it ended up being a good deal. It wasn't the cheapest one, but I wanted to make sure I got one that I liked so I would actually use it. I had an old mag trainer a couple of years ago and it was horrible (so I gave it to my sister who likewise does not use it). I also got an odometer so I knew how far I was going rather than aimlessly spinning and having no clue. It is a pretty smooth ride and so far I am pretty happy with it. I intend to take it for a spin tonight while the boys watch a show tonight.

Morning Gang -

Sounds like you are gonna be ready for LR and your Ultra, bob, with the increased mileage!

Count me in on the 200+ miles month with Mindi and Maria. I have 219, plus whatever I do on the TM later today (stupid snow ruining my outdoor run!).

I am a complete airhead. I was ready to start taper for LR next week. Realized today that I started my 12 week schedule a week early and that LR is 5 weeks away. Yikes! Comment on my blog post with your ideas on what I should do for this extra bonus week of training I now have!

Yoga on tap for me tonight as well, I'm planning to try out the 90 minute Warm Yoga class. We are also getting more snow. The walk in to work wasn't brutal but it wasn't pleasant either. Bring Spring!!

I have found I can only do it if I befriend 4:30 am AND the treadmill. It is the only way I can get decent miles in during the week. Plus you have to be a little OCD.

Today's 4 miles on the TM - couldn't muster the effort to run in single digit temps and (-) windchills - gives my 97 for January.

Re: 200+ miles: If I weren't training for a marathon, I wouldn't make it over 200. Having the goal of a marathon forces me to brave the cold/snow, conquer my mental issues with the TM and get out there. The other thing that has helped enormously is that I switched jobs and am now my own boss. So I'm making time to run because there is no one around to fire me!

Congrats!! I was going to be on part of the course yesterday on my way to skiing, but it was closed due to too much snow. Yikes. There is a 7.6 mile "Lake Waramaug Road Race" that does one loop of the lake. One of those local races I have always wanted to try, but never have. It is on the last weekend of Feb, so it conflicts with Mrs LH's birthday usually.

Welcome back Maples. However, if you keep bragging about that weather we may not be so happy to see you :)

Thanks for the info, and another question for those with trainers - do any of you have an issue with your pet(s) getting near the wheel? My cat loves to get all up in my stuff, regardless of what I'm doing, and I'm scared he's going to get too close.

Well I was back in my old routine this morning. I got up before work and ran at the park. When I got back home I knocked out Theia's Russian medicine ball ab workout. I'll be good and sore tomorrow- all over. hhehe

Can I get a few opinions? The 5k is February 26th. If I build up a little each of these 4 weeks until the race, don't you think I should be ready? 5k isn't a terribly long distance to train. I was not winded Saturday on my 1 mile run- after about 6 months off.

Here are my initial thoughts:

Week ending 2/5/11: four runs: 1/1/1/1.5 Monday-Tuesday-Thursday-Saturday (each week)

Week ending 2/12/11: four runs: 1.5/1.5/1/2

Week ending 2/19/11: four runs: 2/2/1.5/2.5

Week ending 2/26/11: three runs: 2.5/2.5/2/race 5k

Please bear in mind I am literally starting over from zero. A part of me is embarrassed about posting such low numbers but heck you gotta start back sometime. And I want to know if you think that I won't over do things by using the above plan.

It felt good to get back out on the path this morning. Tomorrow I am going to weigh and measure. The figures will be UGLY but if I stay active then it will make for more impressive weight and size losses in the future. LOL Gotta find something positive out of the situation.

I'm also happy that I can post here from work. It gives me more time to visit and to get in the groove and stay more active.

Also we have a 10k at the end of April here in Oxford. I think I have plenty of time to really be ready for that race. I feel a little rushed on the 5k but I can go a little slower on the progression on the 10k training in March and April.

So, my monthly run total was a little sad, only 8.4, but I have a 45 run that I didn't have a distance for to add on and more than usual walking miles. I ended the month with a 15 day streak of having something worth logging. Overall, I'm pretty happy with it, but I want to have a better running total at the end of February.

I think 4:30 a.m. is beyond me. I have half a chance in the warmer weather, in the winter - no way.

January 53.3 miles. I'd like to improve on that number but I also want to do more strength training and yoga, I think I need to win the lottery so I can spend 2 hours a day working out.

Just recently I've been going to classes at the gym but I do Yoga at home via DVD too. Instructors: Rodney Yee and Bryan Kest are favorites, and I have Shiva Rea headed my way via NetFlix.
