I often go a little nuts during the taper, but I feel fine this time. I took yesterday off and wasn't really itching to run, like I often am during the taper. I'll do a few miles today, and that should keep me from getting antsy...

I checked the weather for the weekend in Minneapolis. Sunday is supposed to be sunny, low of 47, high of 60. So I'd figure low 50s for most of the race. That sounds nice...

Hugs to Lora and BigG.

Ugh, not me. I didn't know it until a couple days later, but I think I ran the NYC Marathon last year with the flu. During the race, I couldn't figure out why I kept fading and fading. And then right after the race ended while I was in the humongous line of runners shuffling thru the finish corral, I felt like I was going to puke. That was one of the most unpleasant racing experiences that I've ever had...

But, uh, I'm sure you'll be fine, BigG...
Main goal this time: fun. But, time-wise I'll still go out at BQ pace and see what that feels like (3:45:xx) and see if I can hang on. Added bonus this year is I'm older, so 3:50:xx would qualify me for 2012. I have no idea if I'm in that kind of shape this time, so at any point I could just completely switch to survival/fun mode.

You're in Corral A, right? (Or whatever the name is for the one you need to qualify for). We went over this a while ago in the TCM thread, I think. I'm just too lazy to look it up.

I'm also planning on going for a 3:45, which would be a PR for me (although nowhere close to a BQ). I think I've trained well, and if the weather is nice, I'll hopefully have a shot. I've now run more marathons since my PR than I did before it. In these last 2.5 years, I suppose I could use various excuses for that, such as a broken ankle, a bout of swine flu, the diagnosis of my epilepsy, some nasty weather, and a couple of really hard marathon courses. I don't think I'll have any of those excuses this time. So if I can't get the PR, I might as well give up trying...

I'm in Corral 1. We should be right around eachother then for at least the first 1/2 of the race, or until one of us fades. I'm not a big talker when I'm running that fast or that far, so don't think I'm trying to be rude! I'll talk to you over beers, post-race. Decent chance I'll be wearing pink. Look for me.
We're in Corral 1. We'll be right next to the 3:40 pacer. I have to run with a Packer fan. Grrrrrrr.

Then we should all be pretty close to each other. I actually have half a mind to start with the 3:40 pacer in an attempt to bank time before my inevitable collapse...

Anyhoo, tonight I did some kind of a speedwork thing. It was little a tempo/interval/fartlek hybrid. Maybe I just invented a new kind of run. All told, it was 6.6 miles at an avg 8:20 pace. Too much/fast this close to the marathon? Meh.
