Morning peeps!

Brrrrrr! Cold cold cold here in the South! It will make my walk to work FAST! Then yoga Monday tonight....I need to get a little bendy. This cold weather makes me all hunchy...

Brr is right! Not as bad as those up north, but still... Metro Atlanta won't even break the freezing mark today, and tomorrow's low (not counting wind chill) should be 14!

I was a bad girl yesterday, ignoring my LR. Temps were cold, but that wind was killer, and I couldn't make myself do 10 on the TM. I should have at least done 5 or so, but ahh well. Bi/Tri work done for this morning. Core + Spinning are on tap for later today.

hunchy. hehe. We have -11 with a wind chill of -26. NOT FAIR to have a shit ton of snow AND bitter cold in the same week. And really, I thought after such a godawful brutal summer of heat that we'd catch a break with a mild winter. NOT SO!

Yeah, I'll be running on the treadmill at lunch today. I'm not tough like Cindi! (Where the hell is the not-worthy smilie?)

Big congrats to boB! WOOT! (more not-worthiness!)

Gotta go catch a bus. I am not walking in to work in this cold, and I can't park at my Mom's house anyway, she's still snowed in because her snow removal guy has not come yet! yeesh.

Stay warm people!!

Thanks, BigG. But really, the notworthy smilie should go to you WI and MN folks. It's not even Winter for another couple weeks and you guys are already buried in snow. I don't know how you handle it...

Anyway, my legs are a teeny bit sore today. I may try a few miles on the TM tonight...

Good Morning!

Missy, yay yay yay for your nice run!

Duck, the 'mill sounds sweet!

Nice map, Bob!

Mindi, it's all so very relative, this time last year I was running faster by around 30 seconds/mile at around the same perceived effort. Yesterday's run was supposed to be at a "steady" effort, last year that was 7 or a bit quicker. I do think my speed will come back, but since I'm not doing any proper speedwork for now it'll be tough sledding to get back to where I was. How are you feeling after your flu attack? Your poor body must be worn out from that!

Ann, it's chilly here, too, and stupid windy! It's going to dip below freezing tonight, we have a lot of work to do with our veggie plants and herbs. Stuff in pots will get moved indoors and the stuff in the garden will get covered. We already got some frost damage from last weeks cold front on 2 of my tomato plants. Crazy weather, it was really warm yesterday!

Running wise, I have a relaxed 9 to get to. I'll head out in an hour or so. I like the temps, but the wind is going to be a challenge to fight through.

Add me to the not-as-tough-as-Cindi-column. 14F and icy conditions (we never got the 8" of snow they called for but we did get a lot of rain that was flash frozen...all of our windows and class doors have a covering of ice.) means TM for me. 5 miles done and done.

Morning Gang -

Bob - saw your response about your favorite marathon. You forgot another reason TCM was so great, didn't you?!?! (Hint: the fabulous company for the early miles!)

Count me in as impressed with Jen's run yesterday! Enjoy your relaxed 9 today!

You are all so sweet, but really, I'm not that tough. If I had other options like most of you (a TM in the house or a gym close by), I'd probably do that. But the gym I belong to is 30 minutes away (by work), so between not running and running in the cold, I choose to run in the cold.

Speaking of cold. It's -11 degrees here and our heater decided to conk out! Seriously. Ugggg. It was 57 in the house when we woke up this morning. We have a call in to a heater-fixer-dude, but I'm sure they are swamped.

Mindi - you asked about whether I run in the dark when it's snowy too. Yes. See above. I don't have other options. However, I stay in our neighborhood and there are street lights spaced out pretty evenly and the snow is usually packed and not bad to run on.

Good runs today peeps!

Hey everyone.

It is not quite as bad as MN here, but close. Actual temp is 1 degree. With the wind chills it is said to be -15 to -25. I didn't spend much time outside verifying that, however. I actually drove my boys to school too b/c I could just envision the bus breaking down and lots of kiddos freezing their tuckuses off.

Monday is always a rest day for me, but I did my arm weights this morning. I may hop on the treadmill tonight so give it my first spin for the season.

Jen - I know it is all relative, but I'm still impressed. :) I am feeling pretty good. I only ran once last week and really focused on rehydrating, etc. (well, in between holiday parties anyway ;). But I do feel back to normal now and am preparing for a regular training week - although it looks like most of it may be on the treadmill.

Cindi - I really think I am going to try to do more outdoors this winter even if the footing sucks. We'll see though. Terrible timing for the heater - I was just thinking this morning how very thankful I was for our heater!! Hope you are able to get it fixed STAT.

Happy Monday and everyone stay warm!

No running for me this weekend. The conditions were way too bad/slippery/dangerous for little ol' me and my tweaky back. I did bike on the trainer yesterday, lifted and of course shoveled. And really, the walk to the grocery store on Saturday really was quite the workout. Snow up almost to your waist in areas makes for great resistance. Today they are finally supposed to plow our roads. Sigh. This winter is going to be a long one.

BigG - really? The last time I remember was back in 96 or 97. The whole state was closed except for the U of M. Sigh. I didn't go since i walked and the wind chill was -80 (old style). I got docked on a German language lab I missed. jerks.

Howdy all - well, my planned run this weekend never came to being; just too much holiday stuff I ended up doing. Probably won't be Wednesday either until I give it a whirl (could go tomorrow, but I don't know if I want to deal with rain and we seem to be all NTAC (not tough as Cindi) )

I'll try to sneak in something today regardless (probably some yoga & strength training)

Woot for you boB! Another state and another marathon in the books! And big ups to Mindi's DS as well!

Nice find on the 'mill, duck - yeah, I saw how you guys are getting drenched up there as well.

Way to get out there Jen and Missy and all of you who are pounding out the miles

Morning all. Good luck for all those struggling with Mother Nature. And congrats on knocking out another state, boB.

I put in 7 this morning, but I rolled my ankle with about a mile left. I have it wrapped and elevated. It is sore, and a little swollen. Hope that is the extent of it.

Wow, another great weekend of running with peeps here! I squeezed in a 14+ miler yesterday morning prior to walking all over the city w/J and his cousins. The rain didn't bother me much at all + we got back to the Tenement Museum which is a freakin' fabulous place and a must see for all visitors and NYCers alike. Today is in a bit of a holding pattern at the moment, I'm hoping to get out of work a bit early and squeeze in another run but today might have to be a rest day if not.

Missy - sooooo very glad you got out for those miles, is Bella's endurance still there? :)

Great run Jen! Is your training for Boston similar to what you've done in the past or did coach switch it up some?

Before we got a treadmill I was in the same boat, and would run outside as long as it wasn't icy. Just put on more and more layers. While the treadmill isn't my favorite thing, I'm grateful to have it.

Very different. No speed, just easing into some strength stuff (hills on the 'mill that will start tomorrow) right now, and I don't have any set paces for my runs. I don't know what the future weeks will bring, but that's where he's keeping me right now. Hopefully the body will endure this fine and I'll be able to start some harder runs in a couple of weeks.

duck, nice pick up on the TM!

tim, great to hear the knee is okay. now, don't let it happen again and get some XT/prehab done!

ailarie - nice AGA (award)!

yeah, i'm in the NATAC group as well.

kath, the quivering ain't so pretty. too much swelling (in the knee)

boB, congrats. an i agree, new england is looking awfully pale on that map.

maria, nice mileage. you seem to really be knocking out some good miles lately.

goon, dunno if a a picture of dog pee has made it onto this board before. nice unique work there!

brandy, take care of yourself...rest up and let that kidney/rib/muscle heal.

jen, i'm not sure what my running future holds. i'm not much into predicting anything running. the second i do that, the g-o-d-s usualy strike me down (injury, sickness, etc) mercilessly. i hate to put a timeline/date on it, so for now i'll follow my doc and pt's instructions and hope that i can get back at it soon enough. these days it's a bunch of stationary biking, heel and toe touches, bosu ball stuff, leg press, etc. i'm hoping they'll allow me in the pool soon so i can get my heart rate elevated and maybe burn a few extra calories.

so my no-chocolate-before-christmas pact with myself came to a screeching halt. someone in my house suggested making CC cookies....i just am so weak and can't resist. so everytime i walk by the container i grab one or two. that adds up quick to a good 8/10/12 cookies plowed through in no time!

i put our tree up on saturday afternoon only to have it fall over at 11pm that night, just as i was going to bed. and, it spilled all 3ish gallons of water on my floor, soaking through the carpets. oh, and 2 glass ornaments broke so i spent 30 mintues picking up glass shards everywhere. nice.

pt today this afternoon for me and hopefully a trip to the gym tomorrow for a 1/2 hour of light biking and weights/core.

cheers
