Fun day at the Columbus Marathon yesterday. Arrived at 6am and started getting mylar blankets ready. From there filled gatorade cups. No sooner than that was "done" (that job isn't done 'til the last runner finishes!) the first half finishers started coming. Then it was handing out mylar blankets as fast as we could. I did take a break after catching son1. He didn't have the day he wanted, rather it was a race to the POJ's for him. Yes, multiple. He's hoping to find another one yet this season. We'll see. Okay, back to mylar blankets. Until we ran out at 3:15. We recycled for a while, then finally had to admit defeat. I felt really bad that we didn't have blankets for a majority of the marathoners. I was told I could go, but with a friend finishing closer to 5:00, I stuck around and did medals. I love watching the BOPers come in! Plenty of tears from the "I just ran a marathon!" people. And there was a marriage proposal. I was able to medal my friend who finished around 5:10. Shortly after that, I called it a day. I felt bad that I didn't wait for the last finisher, but 8.5hrs on my feet had done a number on my legs. I did go for a short spin which helped loosen up my back.

I went to church in the evening. We had I think 5 runners. Not bad for a church of aobut 60. One was a first time visitor who had knocked out a 1:09, 9th OA. I loved hearing about my friend's first marathon. So many from the church had leap frogged the route to cheer them on. Another friend needed a 3:30, but after injury got a 3:36. She, too is looking for another yet this season.

With my marathon next week, it's super taper for me. What was just a twinge in my calf has blossomed into a wicked cramp. Probably a rest day for me today.

edit to add--one of the neatest things from the finish line. A woman asked me if I know what she needed to BQ. Not that I happen know all the finish times, but I asked her how old she is. 43. Ah, my AG. She needed a 3:50. Really? I was kidding, right? No, that's my AG, and you need a 3:50. She got it by 6mins. She gave me a sweaty hug and kiss, and asked me again. Yah, you got it. She gave me another hug. She walked away all shaky. Medical was on her like a rash. Nah, she's fine. She just BQed on her first marathon.
