Good morning, TEAM LIT!

Not much of a workout for me today. Just a keep-the-streak-alive leg-stretcher. Nothing more. Maybe a mile and a few tenths. Pretty sore from yesterday's marathon.

Great day!

Weekend Recap:

Sat: 2 miles easy with a few strides to keep the legs firing.

Sun: Mohawk Marathon: 3:01. Finish time secured me a qualifying spot in Boston 2013 (already in for 2012). Pretty pumped over my performance even though it was a very fast race course. Went out at sub-3 hour pace with a group of 20. By mile 13 we were down to 15. We went through half in 1:28:50. By mile 15 we were down to 5 or 6. Three guys pulled ahead. Still on pace at mile 18, the group was totally decimated in the heat. Was solo affair from there until the finish. First mile where I lost time was 20, but I was still on pace for sub-3. By 23 I started losing more time, and it was exponentially more difficult to maintain form and a resemblance of pace, but I held strong, not giving up too much time but giving up enough to push me over sub-3 by a minute. Picked off one of those other guys and a few others that went out far faster. Finish came in 3:01. Gave it my all on this otherwise hot day -- think it was 85F by finish. Glad to have such a strong performance when I know that I am slower than I was last year and the year before. Bonus was having my wife at the finish line! Had about 15 others from my running club there doing either the full marathon or the half. Fun time.

Amazing triump, Thor!!!! Great to hear your being satisfied with your performance. With the little aches and discomfort I have read since your epic race in west and the unseasonably warm weather yesterday, this is a real testimony of your superb fitness. Another marathon in Nov.?

Nice Job Thor. Always makes my day to have a wonderful spouse at the finish line.

Yo: Hope you are still healing. Love the new enchantment with cooking!

Don: Congrats on 2nd AG.

Ronbo: Way to set an example for the scouts!

Reg: Congrats on the job!

DOR for me today and every Monday. Hubster home from school and hopefully making some awesome chicken pot pie for dinner. He makes the best I have ever eaten. It is all in the veloute he tells me.

Weekend Recap:

Saturday: Rode 112. Much slower than I want to be on race day but I thoroughly enjoyed the company and the course. More to say on this but will start another post asking some questions and looking for some insight from everyone who wants to jump into the conversation.

Sunday: 50 minute run with my niece. She talked the whole time and it was awesome to be able to catch with her. She is off to college next year so I am appreciating the time with her while I have it.

Have a great daya nd hopefully have a great week!

Thanks Yoshi! I am very psyched to have pulled this off. And to think that I was on sub-3 pace until around 22-23 gives me confidence that, as long as I cut out an over abundance of trail/mountain runs, I can keep/get back that speed. But I do feel as if I have peaked already -- two to three years ago, when I went sub-3 four times in a short span in a single year -- and I am now on the decline. But I get that decline doesn't mean roll over and die slow. It just means that I may not PR again. And with the nicks and pains of the last year, this is even more sweet.

I don't think I'll run a November marathon. The mental strain of racing a marathon, at least for me, is pretty great. Although I held strong yesterday and didn't slow too much, the mental toll was great, as it always is. And honestly, every time I race a marathon I always need a lot of time away from thinking about it, mainly to rest the mental game. I've ran marathons back to back before, but very few have I raced, and those that I have I always went into not at all expecting to. So no racing marathon distance for me for the rest of the year.

But I won't roll over. I have several other fun things in mind, as long as I recover both physically and mentally. Looking promising right now. Thanks for the words!

Weekend recap for me: Some weights, a bike ride, some running.

Today...probably just a short run after work, then some weights and swimming later on. Really struggling to find my motivation lately. Like...really a lot. Every workout seems very hard.

85 I'd have burst into flames. Thankfully... none of that for me.

today was a repeat of the workout I screwed up last week!

Bike

20min w/up

then repeat 10s standing biggest gear, 10s sitting SAME GEAR @ 100rpm. Repeat until failure of form. Spin until 5min mark. Repeat. 10x.

10min c/d

brutal.

Well, depends on how you define "fail" because I held form throughout - went to ~4min point (12 reps of 2x10) and watched my power go from 400watts to 350 to 300 to 250 to 200 at end. The standing is the killer for me. So if failure means "when you cannot keep pedalling continuously... well then I failed FAR sooner. like under 1 minute of the 5min block. I decided it was too short and I'd do a cheater rest of 1 rotation, which was just enough to get me going again every 10s stand up.

rough. Bet I will feel that tommorow!

1hr on an exercise bike. Glorious day yo be outside but I didn't get too down thanks to the book "unbroken" I couldn't wait to read during a work out. What puzzles me is why this pinky toe is still swollen and sore to touch - it's been 3weeks +...... Am I ever going to able to run..? The rib is still sore, but getting better. I think my fall running season is done.
