loopy--tell me you aren't still running in shorts.

chances--add a layer and take it outside!

Short 6 route for me. Felt good to get out there. Dead freakin' even splits, considering I had to wait for traffic IB 24:35, 24:40.

zrun- So, did all the yoga help? Or is it too early to tell?

I guess I'm gonna head out for an easy 5. Marathon this Saturday... I think the more I think about it, the more pissed I get. It wasn't supposed to be like this. I get left high and dry by several friends that were sposed to sign up with me... now I'll be solo... for a race I am so under prepared for. Why havn't they invented the time machine yet? Half marathon sign up? Don't mind if I do...

I just got done shoveling snow for the 4th time in 24hrs. I think we easily got over a foot of snow. There are 3 foot deep piles where I put the snow and before that there was basically nothing. No running for me today. Maybe some plyometrics when I got back from taking kids to school.

Nice job on all of the running and such this morning.

Got in 9.7 miles (ended up a progression run) with the Sunday running group yesterday morning. Cool, crisp and clear 30F. Spent the rest of the day putting up the tree, chasing DD and watching football. This morning I decided to hit the gym and do weights... oh boy, I'm so out of shape... gonna be sore. I'm now very tired and in need a nap. This afternoon will be tough...

kfuller - Jeepers! Maintain good form when shoveling. We've had no snow this November. I'm sure there'll be pay back.

BBS - Wow, marathon week already!? You can't do anything about the training now. Just set a conservative goal, keep the early miles slow and focus on finishing. Screw the drop outs, you don't need them... find a friend in the race. YOU CAN DO IT!

zruns - nice job getting out there.

4boysmom - nice job adjusting those splits.

chances - remember, keep the weights off the TM... unless you are lifting it.

Loopy - glad to hear that the knee is getting better.

Kevin- If I shoveled that much snow, I'd be more worried about getting horizontal somewhere, like my couch

RA- <sigh>... yea, my friends suck. I think one of my downfalls has been this 'slower' pace. I normally run easy at about 8:15-8:30, well, here lately on these long runs I have increased it to 9:00-9:20s and I have started having oddball pains in my hips and legs that I've never had EXCEPT for when I ran/walked that 11.5 mile race at my buddies pace (about 9.5-10.00) earlier this June. I don't think my body is used to that pace, and hasn't had enough time to adjust to it... or maybe I'm just pulling excuses out of my rear end to make up for what will probably be a horrible experience this Saturday.

Hey all,

It's Monday which means work sucks. Been getting pounded since I walked in the door.

Rest day for me today. Biked some trails and did leaf blowing yesterday.

BBS - no matter what happens, once you finish, you'll be able to tell your buddies what wimps they are. Over and over again.

Kevin - your report's giving me flashbacks to last winter

zrun - sounds like the yoga is slowly working

RA/Chances - I will be joining you both in the weight room starting next week

4BM - good job on the even 6

loopy - nothing like a chilly 10 to wake you up

It's a good excuse but not unfounded. It takes time to adapt to the additional pounding of a slower pace.

I could lie and say that the marathon is all sunshine and roses with bikini clad hotties at each the aid stations. Running a marathon is painful; however, it's as horrible as you make it. If you focus on the negative, it will be horrible. Be conservative early and focus on why you are doing it and, when it gets tough, think of how proud your son will be of his Dad. After the race, you'll soon forget the bad parts and remember you just ran a marathon! Then you'll start thinking that you could run faster next time...

BBS--a couple years ago I had a nice little pity party for myself. I was running Athens Marathon and would have no one at the finish. Yah, there would be people cheering, but I'd have no one cheering just for me. I knew it was going to be a very lonely place. Well, some lovely friends here promptly smacked me upside the head. I was the one who had put in all the training--and for a spring marathon, that meant plenty of long runs in cold, snowy conditions. I had to do this marathon FOR ME, because frankly, no one else really cared what I did. Same for you, my friend. YOU put in all the training. YOU go out and RUN YOUR RACE. You have to get yourself out of this mental slump. You've done the training. Too late to give up, my friend!

Fly by. Today was the day we closed on the new house. I went out for a 9 mile run to shake out my nerves. Now we're in the empty house preparing to eat some pizza.

After seeing the reports on the news, I think we got around 15-20 inches of snow. Tomorrow will be an interesting trek for running as many of the side streets are just a mess. Then it will be off to the dentist where I hope to have no cavities etc....
