Vacation day today, though not exactly a fun reason. After the funeral, driving to the airport to pick up MIL, so I'll probably get to have a nice dinner and go to Trader Joe's at least.

I woke up this morning singing this song. Strange. But I guess it could have been worse. I could have been singing Mr. Rogers It's a beautiful day in this neighbourhood. A beautiful day for a neighbor. Would you be mine? Could you be mine?

regardless...I'm super chipper today. Hope you all feel the same. Now go out there and conquer the world!!!!!!!!!!! (insert evil maniacle laugh here)

Well, Winter, if you didn't spend 10 minutes typing the name of your thread, you might have gotten yours in first.

Well, it's Monday. There's rarely anything good about that.

So who watched the Super Bowl? Anybody? I didn't really have a horse in the race, but I was rooting for Green Bay for a few reasons: A) Pittsburgh has won it a few times recently; 2) Ben Roethlisberger is a punk; and D) Brett Favre is a douchebag and I'm glad Green Bay won it without him...

Every year USA Today's "Ad Meter" judges the best Super Bowl commericals. This year there was a tie for first place between the Bud Light dog sitter (okay, that one wasn't bad) and the Doritos dog knocking down the door. Seriously on that one? I thought that one was stupid. Five seconds into the commerical I could tell what was going to happen. Commericals aren't funny if you can predict the ending five seconds into it. I would've voted that one of the WORST ones. Who voted that at the top??

morning gang...

boB - great game I thought. Being an AFC North guy though, I was hoping the Steelers would pull it out. Bright spot of the night is that thanks to the Pittsburgh touchdown with 0:39 before halftime won me $35.

Commercial wise my favorite was the Volkswagon with the mini-Darth Vader followed closely by the return of the CareerBuilder.com monkeys.

I watched the Super Bowl! Woot Woot! GO PACK!!! We had a Super Bowl party with friends and had a GREAT time. Although we were up too late and there just isn't enough coffee this morning.

Man, the ads this year were kind of dumb in my opinion. The first Doritos one - EWWWWWW.

I was unimpressed with Christina Aguilara and the Black Eyed Peas though. The sound was all screwed up for the BEP - you'd think given that it was the Super Bowl, they'd have that right.

I need to get busy busy this morning, so I'm outta here. Have a great day!

Greetings, all.

I watched the SB as well. At a point or two, yelling loudly enough to startle my dogs. I was rooting for the Steelers, mainly because GB was the team that knocked Atlanta out of the playoffs. Well, technically Atlanta knocked Atlanta out of the playoffs (let's not discuss details on that one.. it's just too painful!). Still though, I just couldn't root for GB. In the end though, at least the game turned out to be a nail-biter when it came down to the last few minutes. That's the best kind of game, no doubt.

Commercials: They were so-so this year, really. Ones I consider the best, are the ones I remember - the Volkswagen Beetle one, and the kid Darth Vader one.

Singing: I was seriously disappointed this year. When I heard that Agulera was singing the anthem, I thought we had a chance for a beautiful presentation. With her pipes, she could easily hit the high note, and even jump an octave (or TWO) and nail it. When she sings plain-jane, her voice is amazing. Between her botching the lyrics + the ridiculous number of vocal runs that she added into the anthem, I was not at all amused. Why can't people sing the anthem the way it's written without having to yodel the damn thing? Hmph. Halftime show: Meh. Bored beyond words. I've never though that the BEP's sing well live. Last night just reinforced my opinion.

Wow.. it's 7 months before things crank back up again. That's a LONG time! Argh.

I actually didn't watch any of the super bowl, not even the commercials.

Y'day morning, my fav hat shop had an invitation only, early bird event, got there at 6:50am, for 40% off a cute jacket. No hats for me this time...it was so crowded it was hard to look. Then I went for coffee with my friend who came with me. Spent the rest of the day at my sister's. Helped her take down my niece's crib and set up her new (my childhood) bed. Then she made chocolate fondue and sandwiches and we watched Mary Poppins and drank champagne slush (aka oops, we put the bottle too far back in the 'fridge) out of princess paper cups.

I haven't really eaten much in the last few days, half a sandwich here and there, I just have no appetite. Can't sleep either. I'm just feeling so incredibly lost right now. Not just because of The Guy, but I'm helpless wrt my mother and my sister, and I actually really miss my ex husband. I don't regret the divorce one bit, but he was my best friend and now he's not. I've lost all my oldest friends in the last year...that's a really hard thing to swallow.

I really really really want to learn to knit well enough to make katholeenie's cowl.

I missed Tonya's birthday! HAPPY BIRTHDAY! I did wish Gov a Happy Birthday on FB but didn't catch Tonya's.

$o, Winter....you $ay you need $ome money vibe$? I will do my be$t but I'm in the $ame boat a$ well. I will $end a$ many a$ I can $pare.

Speaking of money, I did get my taxes done this weekend (yay me) and I'm getting more of a refund than I was expecting (double extra yay). Apparently Congress made some change that the IRS hasn't caught up with so I can't e-file until after the 14th. pah. So I just printed them and mailed them. I figured they'll have them already to process on the 14th or 15th or whatever. I just want them to send my refund asap pleaseandthanks I need a new computer.

SUPERBOWL!! Yes I watched, it was great! I like it when it's not a blowout. This was a nail biter! And I was totally rooting for Green Bay. I lived in Wisconsin for 20 years, I haven't been deprogrammed yet. We made brats, cheese curds and fried fish. Christina Aguilera oversang like they always seem to do. UGH. The halftime show highlight was the light up suits. My favorite ad was the homeaway.com one that included the test baby. It just cracked. me. up.

C got home after the game to find that his neighbor's car had been rear ended, totaled, in front of his house. Hit and run. They caught the guy - totally drunk, didn't even remember where he had hit the car. Apparently it happened just minutes before he got home and the neighbors had been in the car getting stuff out of it 10 minutes before. It could have been really really tragic. Seriously, how can you be THAT DRUNK and think it's okay to get behind the wheel? Why don't other people stop guys like that when they're leaving the bar or party? agh.

I'm super tired today because all that adrenaline from the game prevented me from sleeping. more java puh-lease!!

Fun: Got the job offer this morning.

Not fun: they have a standard salary they pay, and it's slightly over half of what I was making before. I pretty much have to take it, because hey, tomorrow marks a year since I've been laid off & I need a freaking job. It's just frustrating that there isn't any wiggle room, and my 15 years experience & knowledge of the industry doesn't seem to count for much.

OTOH..... it's getting me out of design, and will hopefully lead me into other more lucrative positions.

Oh crap - I forgot to Congratulate you kathleen! Beeg bummer that it's not a better offer!!

I got the expected rejection for the Worksite Wellness Coordinator job this morning. And I am STILL waiting to hear if I'll be interviewed for the other job I applied for a month ago. How can they sit on this for so long? What if an ideal candidate came along (like me, right?) and applied and then took a different position in the meantime? That department loses out on what could be a great addition to their staff. hmph.

congrats, Kath!

that sucks about the salary but maybe if the work isn't stressful, you'll be able to continue your own creative endeavors and make some extra money that way. It's hard making less money, I make nearly 25% less than I did, and it's hard. I have enough...but I save almost nothing. <$100 a month. That's not where I expected to be at this point in my life. It makes me so anxious knowing I don't have the financial stability I should at this age. I'm just thankful I've been reasonably conservative over the years and do have some personal retirement investments. Not enough though.

Hi everyone - I was only marginally interested in the Super Bowl and I didn't have much of a rooting interest in either team, but I ended up rooting for Pittsburgh in the end (a little bit of the underdog factor, a little bit of the Aaron Rodgers over-hype in this region of the country (annoying in that many say that Rodgers would be the same QB we're seeing now in SF had he been drafted by SF...uh, no, not even close) and because I like Mike Tomlin as a coach.)

I don't think it was that great a game even though it was relatively close - neither team as a whole was terribly sharp and if anything the Packers' defense was the key (forcing the three TOs and giving Rodgers a short field to operate on; only one of their drives was the true drive-em-down-the-field variety.) Rodgers deserved the MVP because he was the only one out there who was consistently sharp the entire game.

((((Maureen))))

The ads just plain sucked for the most part. Like you boB, I don't get the appeal of the dog through the door ad - I could see that one a mile way. The VW/Vader ad was cute, but the 30 second version on the SB doesn't compare with the full version on YouTube. I liked the Bridgestone beaver spot and the NFL sitcom characters as fans ad as well.

And why don't most consider the godaddy.com ads one-trick ponies by now? I guess it does keep their name in the spotlight, but it's a big yawn for me now

Don't count on it...I think we're going to see a shortened season due to the labor stuff. Hope it's 7 months.

Yay for the job, Kath! Just keep that resume out there. We have been under a pay freeze for longer than I can remember, but there always seems to be money available to give raises to the most highly paid folks, usually couched in a "promotion" with no additional responsibilities.

I missed the first quarter and then watched the rest of the game solo. Not sure if I've ever done that before. None of the ads jumped out at me. Are there actually guys that find Jillian attractive enough to go click on a godaddy web page for the slim hope that they will see something sessay? I think she's ripped as all get out, but not attractive in the least. I was happy that a Kalamazoo kid (Jennings) caught two touchdown passes.

Where I sit at work, my group is next to the parking lot. There is a guy (a trader that is of the "my poop don't stink" variety) that always parks diagonally so no one can park next to him. When we heard about the CB commercial, we all thought of him.

This is all Whitney Houston's fault, because she could pull it off, and now everyone else tries. It is also like seasoning with food - a little salt goes a long way, but if someone served you a plate of salt...

I watched at my neighbor's house, had fun. As moon said it was exciting, but poorly played (and poorly officiated). I had no rooting interest, so all I wanted was a close, entertaining game, and I got that.

Went into the city Saturday to see my son's show, and photograph it. The director though I was photographing all three shows. Umm, no. Fun dinner Sat night. A friend of ours invited us over for traditional tapas. OH. MY. GOD. So freaking good. Of course, by the time we went home (1 AM, waaaaaay past my bedtime) the roads had turned into the ice capades. Got home fine, but not a fun drive.

Spent about 5 hours Sunday clearing more snow and ice, using a roof rake to clear a few feet above my gutters, dig out the mailbox, clear a path to the propane tank, etc. The physical work led to my arm falling asleep again, so I have been awake since 3 AM. I am beat.

No Superbowl for me. I'm not interested. I did see the VW/Vader commercial last week on YouTube. It's cute.

(((((((((Maureen)))))))))) I hear you. The money issues and the loneliness issues, they come and they go. You're still so fresh to this single life, cut yourself some slack. Being single when you don't want to be single is hard. I hope you feel better soon. Do something extra extra nice for yourself.
