What a weekend! Congrats to all our racers! I'm in class now (kids are finishing a test) and don't have time to go back and check who did what. Here's what I recall:

Missy's 5 miler

Ailarie's muddy run

Colleen's 10k (? right?)

Timr and Pacer and Mrs. Pacer's fulls at the Pig (sorry to hear about your rough day, Timr, but glad you're ok now!)

Amy's HM at the Pig

Mindi rocking the Eugene

Maples doing a 10k (? right?)

PTom and Mrs. PTom rocking the Broad Street 10 miler

Maria oversleeping and missing the BSR

Man, I hope I didn't miss anyone. Did I?

I had a great race yesterday. You can read about it here if you want to.

I also had a blast catching up with PTom and Mrs. Ptom after the race. So good to see them, and fyi -- Ptom is kicking ass with his running right now!

Ooouuuuccchh. I am way sore from the Spartan Race. At least today I could thread a leg through a pair of pants without having to sit down for the job.

Fitness for today? bahahah. Normally it's a leg rest day, but bi/tri/thigh/butt/core stuff is on tap. All the aforementioned parts are still in shock from the event, so I'll give them a total break today. Maybe when I get home I'll actually feel like planting my tomato plants. Yesterday, I couldn't even think of squatting, bending over, or using a shovel in the slightest way. :)

Good morning all! Decided to let yesterday's blunder go and move on. Ran 5.10 miles this morning w/4x 30 secs hill sprints. I'm planning on another shorty run this evening and some yoga at home.

Great job to all the weekend's racers!!!!

Hi all - a superb weekend of racing folks; congrats to everyone! Always fun when most of the folks are hitting up a race for any particular weekend.

Right ankle is still a bit sore - the strengthening I've been doing has helped, but I still kinda' rolled on it a bit during my trail race on Saturday. Probably saves me from torn knee ligaments, but I know it can't be good for the ankle.

I'll probably get out and walk around after work sometime, but no stair/hillwork until Tuesday at the earliest.

Good run, recovery and/or travel vibes to you all!

Wow...lots of races going on this weekend here! I'm proud of everyone!

I had a really good 5 mile race. I was just going to take it easy but then a bunch of people started to pass me in the first mile and I thought I'd kick it up a notch. I passed a few people on my way back, uphill, which is always a cool feeling. Finished in 43:11 so I was really pleased with that.

morning

Congrats to all the racers this weekend. It sounds like no one had good conditions....wtf.

Mine was no exception. The temp was fine (34 or so)...it was the wind (gusts up to 40) and the SNOW (yes snow on freaking May 1st). That easily took the windchill into the 20s at times. The course was hilly but not bad in my opinion but with the exception of maybe 1 mile, it seemed we were always battling the wind. As I was pacing a friend, my job was to shield her so...no tucking behind anyone. She, along with most people, had a rough day and missed her goal but hey, we got through it. However, I have not much good stuff to say about the race coordination. Let us start from the beginning

a) address for packet pick up was wrong

II) way too few portojohns (think madison). If we would have waited in those lines, we would have missed the start (and we were looking to pee 20 min before the start)

3) There was little or no actual direction from race officials/volunteers. All waves (they had 3 start waves for a race under 2400 people), started 0.1 miles before the mats where they had the flags. Really? Come on people - oh and this is the 31st time they had this race

d) often at water stops liquid was not ready

V) the finish was on 400 meters of what at 1 pt was grass. After 2 days of rain and 1500 people running before us, it was an ankle's worse nightmare. Deep squishy mud. 1 guy actually lost a shoe. Seriously.

6) Once again, NO direction at the finish. We were in a big mass of people for 25 minutes unable to move and getting frostbite - and no, not 1 blanket to be seen. If someone would have had a medical emergency - I cannot imagine what would have been the outcome.

Price - $50

blah

Lifted for the first time in a month too - I am sore

recovery miles tonight

Such an incredible weekend of running and lots of Racing! Great to see Missy and Moonie getting back to it.

My weekend fitness was only so-so. Brick on Saturday was Ok, swim was fine, but the run after was tougher than it should have been. Long run on Sunday started out ok, but the park was flooded, so I turned back and cobbled together another route. But the HR was too high, the effort and energy was only blah, and I pulled the plug at ~8 miles. Not what I wanted. I finished the day with a bike ride on the trainer.

Brandy that is just beyond words. I would be mad also.

Hey everyone. I hope for speedy recoveries from the weekend. I did not sleep a wink Saturday night. My legs just ached. Everything from calves to thighs- you name it. I looked and I didn't even have any aspirin- one ibuprofen left in a bottle that was 4 months expired. I threw it in the garbage. Miserable night. Well Sunday I bought a bottle of ibuprofen (that works wonders for me when I use it). I rested all day between church and lunch with parents. I slept a little better but TODAY I am still hurting- calves, thighs, hamstrings. *ugh* I've been stretching a little since the race but goodness me. So today I blew off the 3 miler. I might ride the bike this evening but I'm going to resume running on my next scheduled day of Wednesday.

I've spent most of the morning telling my war story from Saturdays catastrophe of a 10k. I was so excited on Friday afternoon so several knew I was participating.

There is another 10k on my birthday in 2 weeks but I have no desire to spend my birthday racing and punishing myself again that close to this run. I'm just going to keep moving forward with what I am doing. April was my best fitness month maybe ever (for consistency). I missed 1 run due to donating blood. I missed maybe 2 bike rides but out of about 45 to 50 activities I might have missed 5 things. Better than 90% participation so I am proud of myself. Reality set in when my weight and measurements held pretty steady though compared to April 1st. But I still have to get my diet under control and push onwards with my fitness. I am adding a 4th day per week of running. I am eventually going to try to work up to 20 miles a week.

I really don't know if I should even ride the bike this evening. I might boot that and mow and weed eat my yard. That will be about a half hour to 45 minutes of walking activity. I'll count that as my "movement" for the day. heh

Dang I feel beat down ROFL. Isn't it amazing how you can hurt yourself when you don't pay attention to what you are doing? (my stupid 9:53 start to my 10k when I should have been at about 12 minutes)

Maples - No hot baths for swollen muscles - Rx is cold baths. Or, if you have a handheld sprayer in your shower just spray down your legs with cold tap water. Horse trainers know what they are doing!

Doh! Geez guys, way to take away my excuse for a nice hot bath.

Seriously I do have a couple of cold packs that I can put on the legs if it doesn't recover soon.

Maples, I can't stand the thought of an ice bath, but they do work, so I've renamed them recovery baths. I've combined tips from different people and used this process after all my long runs. Drink a protein/recovery drink and fill a small trash can or large bowl with ice and set it next to the tub with two towels while the tub is filling with warm (not hot) water. Get in, wash up, then add the ice. In two seconds, when the iciness moves through the water, shudder and/or scream, but stay in for ten minutes. Wrap one of the towels around your shoulders. After 10 minutes, reward your bravery by getting the heck out of there!

Hey all! I made it back safely to Wisconsin. Man, am I tired. I also join the ranks of Amichel and Ailarie on the soreness level. I may have petered out the 2nd half of that race, but you wouldn't be able to tell it from my legs today. TOAST. Of course it didn't help sitting on planes for 6 hours either.

It was a bummer to leave Oregon. The kids had a great time. It was lovely to fly into Madison though to see all of the trees blooming. Yay! Finally.

I am already planning "what's next." Even thought for a minute about a half next weekend in Kenosha. Then I snapped back to the land of rational choices. I'll probably throw my hat into the ring for Madison in a few weeks. I hate that course and it is always hot though. So, probably the half for sure, the full if the weather looks reasonable. For now, I get to completely chill out. Heh, I am sipping on a glass of wine as I write this at 2:45 pm. Hey - it is my last day off and I definitely earned it.

BoB - ultra bald and zesty now, eh? Love it!

Marier - I missed what happened. I need to go back and read all of the race reports. Amy - I am glad you got it done in those conditions - great job! Still bummed for Timr - but I guess it is just a reminder that no matter how great your training season goes, you never really know how race day will unfold.

Off to pull some pics from my camera too. I didn't get nearly enough....
