Bob - nice comeback week

RIP - nice racing as usual

Only 74 degrees here this morning but 100% humidity. 12 miles @ 8:28 pace avg. This is the peak week for my training cycle with a scheduled 18 Wed morning and 22 with 5 X 3 mile intervals Saturday. If I survive this week and tests Fri I might have a descent marathon next month. We shall see.

Hi KS & TW

The good news is I didn't get disqualified this weekend but I must have corrupted the files so the 30k results aren't up yet. I missed the scroll

thingy when I signed up for the race and couldn't figure out why there was only a 15k option so I had to have them switch me over race morning. That's probably what did it

You'll be fine for your marathon KS. I am now more undecided about running a marathon than before this weekends race. While it showed I am right there for a sub 3, I don't know if my legs would hold up for another 7.5 miles.

RIP - go for it while you can. It gets harder and harder the longer we wait. You won't notice the 7.5 miles until after the race and then it won't matter.

Tom- I assume your dad is doing ok. Is Pickles coming back?

Hope some of that humidity was moving vertically, KS.

Rested yesterday (unless one counts at least 24 trips up and down the basement stairs while doing laundry).

I decided to try switching to a morning runs. My body objected but it will just have to do what I tell it to do.

5.5 miles, at recovery pace for the second day in a row.

The goal this week is to see 166 on the scale, which I think is possible with dietary discipline and keeping up the volume. So my secondary goal is to try for a second consecutive 40 mile week. I've never been able to do that, so it is going to be one step at a time slow and easy this week.

KS, I would advise to make every effort to pass those upcoming tests. We sure don't want you to have to take those followup tests!

Hi, all. Nice racing this weekend. I did the Half at the North Face Endurance Challenge, Madison. With a 6-hour drive home afterwards, though, I didn't have the energy to post anything last night. It was a bit warmer than I thought it would be--overcast and 60F at the start, raining within minutes after my finish. Over 1000 ft. of ups and downs, mostly on good footing but some loose rock and sand. The dropoff in participation with age seems to be sharper in trail runs, at least this one, than in road races. There were about a third as many men in the 50-59 AG as the lower ones and a sixth as many in the 60+ AG as in the 50-59 AG. That translates to 3 men over 60! My time (2:02:44) was good enough for 1st in that AG, which is good because the awards went only one deep. My HR was higher than planned, averaging 145 bpm. The average was pulled down by my first mile (127 bpm) so most of them were close to 85% of max (last one a bit higher). I got a handshake from someone you may recognize.

LOTS of good racing around here this weekend! Way to make the young guys run till they puke, ks. And holy carp you've got a big week ahead of you. I've done 12's in the same week as a 23, but certainly not throwing in an 18 miler mid week. Oy.

Big congrats to Heme on her race and no falling off cliffs. Geez. And I always wonder why they pull the overall winners out of the AG? I mean, it's worked out well for me a time or two, but still... I don't get why they do that.

Way to trip up the system there, Rip. Let us know when the results are up, but I'm sure you did amazingly well as usual. And are you saying you won't run a marathon unless you're almost certain of a sub-3? Hmmm, nothing is certain, but I bet you could do it right now.

FO, I always say part of the secret to success is just out-lasting the competition. Nice job on the AG win this weekend. And, um, who is that?

I hope your ankle is ok, Happy Feat. Ankles are complicated beasts and can be difficult to heal up.

Tomwhite forgot talk like a pirate day? I was wondering about that. When does Pickles get back? I think of SteveP (from RA) when his wife leaves town and he has the dog clean the dishes... What will Pickles find?

I ran the Equinox on Saturday, and didn't make my goal but still got a personal best on that course out of it. I was over-confident that I could finally nail a sub-4 on that course, or maybe a 4:05... but nope. Managed 4:12:26 which is almost a 3 minute PR but that's it. Didn't feel "strong" on any of it, so knew my goal was out of reach. But still, it was a beautiful day, the mud wasn't bad and the puddles were manageable. Can't beat a gorgeous September day around here. DH took some pictures and I'll share some when I finally get my act together to get them organized.

Ran 4.1 easy miles yesterday afternoon in another postcard beautiful day here. Now going out for an easy run at lunch before the sprinkles come later on.

heh, me again.

Johnny, I meant to say that it's good that you're getting busy, but too bad the timing isn't great. I leave Friday night for a conference and have a TON of things to do before I go, at home and work. The home stuff is almost most important because I think this is the last week of really good yard/garden work weather we'll see for a long time!

5.1 miles at lunch, 8:30 avg pace. Felt good to get out there.

Erika, I haven't run a marathon in 7 years and don't have any interest in running one unless I think I can break 3 hours. For me racing every weekend=fun. Running a marathon=not as much fun. I'll only take one shot at it if I do decide to run one so it will be 2:59 or bust.

One motivating factor is that I have only been averaging 27 miles/week the last 9 weeks after 4 weeks off. It would be interesting to see if I could do it on less than 30 miles/week.

My legs do feel surprisingly good today. I just finished a pretty hard hour on the eliptical.

Hi Erika! Congrats on the PR, even if you didn't make your goal... that's still a hell of a race. I wish we had trail marathons in this area.

Nice racing FO..... I find the same thing here with the trail races.... could be why I do them. Is that SRLopez?

Hi Mike! Hi Bob! Hi Rip! Hi HappyFeat, wherever you are!

Planned to run after work. Hadn't planned to forget both my sock and my bra, so the run didn't happen and by the time I got home it was too late and rainy to go out. Besides, after all the rocks on Saturday, my Morton's neuroma is barking up a storm. Guess I should see the sports doc before next week's 25K, which I'm nowhere near ready for.

I should change my name to "the caboose" since I feel like I'm the last to post. Hi to all the gang!

6 EZ pace miles tonight with no major issues - whew! Thanks for the healing vibes, Erika. It's technically not my ankle, but the tendons above that feed into it.

I've calmed the fires down a bit with ice, voltaren gel, and rest; so tonights run was alright.

I think FO's "friend" looks just like Dean K...yes? Great job on the North Face Half - I'll chase your time next Sunday - ha ha! (in my dreams!)
