Nuthin' yet today. Eventually I'll get some sort of trot in. Interesting day yesterday. Started the day in the fishbowl. Decided to do just 1500 with single arm drill on the 5 and 10's. (3 sets of 500, each 500=10 laps). FELT like a strong workout, but numbers indicate otherwise. Oh well. Off to church. All during the service I was looking out the window to a beautiful sunny day. After service I discovered it had warmed nicely. Only one thing to do! Once back home I asked son1 if he was interested in a little spin. A quick check of weather showed winds out of the S/SW at 15-20. Okay, so we'll drive north, start with a headwind then kick butt back to the van with a tailwind. Great plan, right???

Son1 wasn't too happy about time lost on the drive. I mean, ya gotta eat the wind one way, why not just deal? Cuz I'm driving. Plus he thought the wind was out of the west. The waves on the river indicated south, plus, I'm the mom. Luckily we drove the route we planned to ride and discovered then that the road was flooded. Okay, plan B. We start our ride and discover early on that the wind was out of the... W/SW. Oh well. So it's a cross wind. After passing the section we knew to be flooded we crossed back over because being right next to the river it is more protected from the wind. The ride was going nicely until we came to another flooded section. Not a problem. Son1 knew another route. Uh, we're at about 10m, shouldn't we be heading back? He didn't know what I was doing, but he was riding all the way back home. Um... thanks??? By now, it was overcast. As I turned back it started snowing. Meh, whatever...

By now, the wind had switched to W/NW. And I was headed north. Whatever, it's only about 9m. But then it started snowing harder. And the wind picked up. Visibility was reduced to about a quarter of a mile. At least I had on my neon jacket so I could be seen? I had on a face mask which helped protect my skin from the stinging snow--it had been nicely sandblasted from my run in the sleet Saturday. But, that caused my glasses to fog. Oh well, not like I could see anyway. It was white out conditions. I was doing good to follow the white line. Snow was sticking and the road was getting slick. And I was scared to death the bike was going to be blown out from under me. I was counting down to 19m. I got to the magical 19 and... had no idea where I was. Aw crap. Was I on the wrong road? Does this road actually go into town or was I headed up to Grandma's? Crapcrapcrapcrap... I'm never gonna get out of this! Then, as always happened on this road, out of no where the town appeared. 20miles exactly.

I got back to the van and found that the entire left side of my body was caked with snow. The inside of my left leg had a good bit, too. I quickly scraped the snow off of me and loaded Sapphire into the van. I pulled a mylar blanket out of the seat back so I'd have something to sit on. Then, I noticed. The snow had stopped. The sky was clear and sun shining brightly. Are you freakin' kidding me?!

I drove back the was I had ridden. In hindsight it's probably best that I had ridden some areas in whiteout conditions. It seems that the road was flooded on this side, too. Had I been blown off the road, I would have gone into the river. Had I seen that while riding, I would have freaked.
