Got in about 3.5 miles of hiking yesterday in a new pair of boots. I went to a local outfitters and got advice on what I should get, rather than just take my chances at Dick's Sporting Goods or something. They weren't the cheapest, but they are waterproof, very comfortable, and have nice ankle support.

3.5 easy, slow miles this morning. I'm thinking about doing a half marathon this weekend. There's one about 3 hours from here. I hear it's a nice, flat course. I don't think I'd get any kind of PR on it or anything, but I'd like to see how I do with the distance.

always the best move going to some place that the people know what they're talking about Kris, too bad their isn't an REI in Ohio.

5.4 miles this morning. No problems with the ankle, still have a little bit of swelling but nothing to be concerned about.

Registered last night for a HM on 9/18. About 30 mins from the house, $40 and get a long sleeve tech tee. Think it will be a nice opportunity to have my last hard long run be supported.

Now I need to go back and catch up from the weekend thread.

I got some pics of the Not Since Moses Run to share. I'm in some of them (pink shorts, grey tank, Canadian flag head scarf).

Great pics Clare. One of my training buddies was in Nova Scotia on his honeymoon and he and his wife ran that race too. He posted a bunch of pics on his FB page. I didn't even recall that he was going there.

KP- yes, it's a nice little shop and I am starting to be more conscientious of supporting small businesses like that. I checked out the price of my boots online and it was the same as what I'd have paid at REI. I just wish I'd remembered that I had a discount card, I'd have saved 10%.

planned rest day, may try and get in something after work. Had my highest mileage week in about 10 months last week, will try and replicate the same this week (and maybe extend my LR from 8 to 9, depending on how ambitious I feel later in the week).

Planned rest day for me too. Although I didn't run yesterday, so I feel a bit slackish. I did walk for hours around Chicago and the Field Museum though, so that must count for something.

Cool pics clare! Looks like a fun race.

Morning all! I do want to run today but seeing as I finished my LR later last night it wasn't going to happen this morning. Now trying to think of a way to get a short run in after yoga, so yoga a definite and a short run if I can manage it.

Colleen - great pictures! I would have needed duct tape to keep my shoes on in that muck but damn it looks fun!

Congrats to the weekend racers! Nice pics, Clare! Good work on the mileage, Litch!

I'm gonna hit the hills tonight. Hopefully this week's Hill run will go better than last week's. Last week it was hot and humid and I got caught in a downpour. It's raining again today, but at least it's not as hot. Hopefully I can slog thru 10+ miles...

hahahaha... had to share this with you all. My running buddy, Elyssa just shared her Garmin info with me from yesterday's Pikes Peak Marathon. The elevation chart is pretty friggin' hilarious

Great job on the relay in tough conditions Brandy! It sucks at the time but makes for good stories later, doesn't it?

Clare - awesome photos! It looks like this guy is lunging in for a hug, or a tackle. LOL.

My weekend running was non existent. I spent all day both days here at work. SUCK! I'm pissed and feeling discouraged about marathon training at the moment. I just don't even feel like running. And I was doing so well sticking to my plan. I knew there was no way I was getting up this a.m. to run - 4 miles today will have to happen after work. And I've got 10 to run tomorrow. I don't know how you guys do it - getting these 10 mile runs in mid week is really hard for me to do. blah blah piss moan bitch complain blah blah.

I have a 20 miler this weekend, and it's going to be solo. There's no marathon training group run because this weekend is the Rochester Half Marathon, which I'm volunteering at. Then after that I head to LaCrosse for my nephew's 5th birthday Saturday afternoon. So I have to decide whether I'm going to stay there Sat night and run the 20 Sunday morning in LaX or come home after the birthday party Sat night and run the 20 here Sunday morning.

Happy running and fitnessing all!

Hey, folks. I haven't checked in here in a while. I've reached another cross-roads with my training. I'm taking a new medication which is taking my body a while to adapt to, so I've decided to focus on weight loss instead of a race goal. My (lack of) eating and (too much) sleeping have been all over the map, and that doesn't translate to very good running conditions. This means I've been walking a lot (and further) more than I would have run, plus I'm going to start adding in some supplemental workouts. I really think I would be a more successful (and joyful) runner with less tonnage, so I'm going to focus on trimming down before I get serious about running again.

Got in a great 8 mile run this morning! The pace was comfortable after the 18 miler two days ago but I kicked it up at the end to finish the last 2 miles at a 7:40 pace. It felt great! Just a little birthday present to myself. I'm 29 again today.

BigG that's my buddy Peter...and I think he was going for the hug! : ) He's 70 years old and can totally kick my ass at running. He just finished up his latest Ironman in Lake Placid. Amazing!

Happy Birthday, Cherl! Btw, I spent some time in Carlsbad. Love it there.

Just had a fabulous visit with Beaker and Little Man! Love spending time with them!

Ran a solid workout on Friday and long run (14mi) yesterday, and my achilles is feeling pretty good. Only a twinge of crankiness lingering. Some barefoot beach running this weekend was good. Got out for 5 easy this morning.

I hope missy and lil' Tiger are doing well! Pics, please!

Clare - cool pics. Good hike, Bard! Good plan, Prae! I think that marathon training motivation comes and goes, BigG. My guess is next week you'll be back in an upswing. Sorry to hear about the lingering hammy (right?) issues, Jen! Good work with the 20 this past weekend, Crane! Congrats on the house purchase and the 10 miles, Duck!

As I told Dan the other day and Beaks today, I'm a lurker way more than a poster these days because I can't post from my Blackberry and I'm not home in front of the computer much. Aggravating that this new site doesn't work with the BB, and that the smiley situation sucks. Grr.

Clare - did you see these people there? Geoff is a former officer of the Birmingham Track Club. Notice both of them are wearing Trak Shak shirts from our local running store.

I didn't see them! Mind you, there were over 1000 people there but still...wouldn't surprise me to find that I did see them! It was a neat day, for sure. I'd do it again. Can't believe how well I did considering I was hung over from the wine and cheese the night before. Not a good pre-run or pre-race meal, for sure! : )
