Ailarie, those little bottles are really hard to keep clean. What about a scrubby brush with hard bristles? That way you could really scrub out the inside of the bottles. I realized yesterday that while my Amphipod bottle smells (and tastes) fine, the handle REEKS. I wash the whole thing every time I use it, but the handle is stinky.

I had a run like TimR's yesterday, except I was alone the whole time. I just kept getting slower and slower, had to walk a few times, and didn't even attempt to run up my big hill (self-defeating, anyone????). If you can believe it, I was even sweatier yesterday than last week (2 miles farther but a good 15 degrees cooler). When I got home, I texted GoV to let him know I made it back safe and sound... The text read, "I quit."

Sorry that your run was teh suck! I know what's it like. But try not to let it beat you down. I went to the YMCA last night and ran 5 miles on the indoor track. Much much better. 5 miles in 36:36. Made me feel like a real runner again. Yesterday's heat index hit 108. Today is going to 115!!!

The garbage truck left a trail of stinky juice. :barf:

I hate the stinky juice trail. It's no fun to run near at all. And this heat just cooks the stink right out of it. Yuck!!!

Maybe it's just the heat, but it seems that once my water or gatorade sits in the bottles for an hour, then the liquid tastes and SMELLS like plastic. Yuck! I even bought new bottles, hoping that would be the solution, but no luck. Is this a common issue, and is there any solution? I've even waited until right before running to fill the bottles, and with nearly frozen (slushy) gatorade. Still in an hour (or less) yuck.

I wonder if it's an issue only with fuel belt bottles (as opposed to Amphipod). I'm in need of a replacement belt anyone (current one is too big now), and if switching to a different brand would help, now is the time. Thanks in advance for any feedback!

I haven't had this issue with my Nathan bottles. One think that you might try that works with camelbak bladders is to keep them in the freezer for a while. So, put the bottles in the freezer overnight or something, then pull them out, fill with ice and fluid and go run and see if that helps any.

Theia - when I was bonking like crazy this past weekend, I kept thinking that I didn't have this issue last summer or the summer before, something must be wonky. I've yet to go audit my log to look at paces vs temps, but I'll see what I find. One of my running buddies suggested that I go get some cocunut water and drink it. It will really help with dehydration and cramping. I got a bottle and I'm drinking it now. That $hit is expensive!!! We'll see hot it works. It has A LOT of potassium in it. Anyone have any experience with it?

Maples - way to stay with it! Keep going.
