A few miles on the recumbent bike, half a mile on the indoor track and a session with little miss evil this morning. Tomorrow J and I plan to swim. I can only imagine how hilarious it will be for me to attempt to swim laps...

Yeah, I'm looking forward to the Race Reports too...

So after three straight weeks over 40 miles, I was planning on scaling back a little this past week. I scaled all the way back to 39 miles. Geez, I hope I don't burn myself out... Well, Little Rock is just under 4 weeks away, so I suppose I should start tapering after this next week, I guess. Of course, then I have the little ol' 50k to worry about. I have no idea what the heck I'm doing with my schedule. As always, I'll just wing it...

Yes, race reports please!!

I was super jealous of Maria's pictures in flip flops yesterday. I ended up having to cut my long run short b/c we got a couple inches of snow overnight and the footing was awful. I was slow, my HR was super high and the run just sucked. Today my calves are screaming at me. :(

Monday is my rest day from runnning. Depending on how my calf feels tonight, I may hit the bike for 30 minutes.

The run yesterday sucked. I was terribly disappointed in my performance...or lack thereof. I'll get over it, though. I still have a stupid cold. I woke up around 5 AM race day and it was pouring out rain and very windy. By 7 AM the rain stopped but it was still windy as heck. The only thing I don't like to run in is wind. So already my mind is saying, "Don't do it." But I went. I latched onto the 2 hour pacer. Stayed with that group til the halfway point (which I reached in 1:01 and change, so I still thought I could pull off my goal of finishing in just under 2 hours). But when I made the turn, I was hit with that 50 mile an hour headwind and I could feel the energy getting sucked outta me. The pacer and his group gradually started to pull away. Around mile 7.5 the pain started. It began in my pubic area, which I thought was really odd. When I was pregnant with the girls, my pubic bone ached like you wouldn't believe. This is what it felt like. Then it moved down to my sit bones, right under my ass. Then it worked itself down the back of my thighs and into the back of my knees. It hurt to walk, it hurt to run. It then went into my calves and I was hobbling along. I've never had that happen to me before so it was kinda freaking me out. I got to the water stop...no Gatorade. They ran out. So I half assed ran/walked the rest of the way. Adjusted my goal to finish under 2:10. Then the 2:15 pacer passed me and I just couldn't keep up. I finished in 2:18 and change. I think that may be my second worst time ever at that distance. I even walked across the finish line, didn't run. Dave said the disappointment (and pain) on my face was pretty obvious. I didn't let them put the medal around my neck, I just took it from them and said "thanks." And I ached all day yesterday. *sigh* Next time, I guess. Next time.

Sorry to hear it. Wind sucks. 50 mph wind? Now that is just brutal. Sounds like you were in a lot of pain too - be sure to take some extra rest.

Greetings all.

5M yesterday + about 2.5 hours cutting down more limbs, brush and small trees. I hope the latter counts as some serious cross training! I'm sporting a bunch of little dots on my arms, and a few on my ankles and just at the waist line where vines of briers got to me through my thick sweatshirt hoodie, between the hoodie and jeans, and at the sock line. What's weird is the spots itch like crazy. Hopefully that goes away soon before I scratch the top layer of skin off! Grrrr!

Bi/Tri/core work will be done at some point today.

I now have (counting today) 7 days until the Mercedes half. Quite frankly, my weight is up a little, and thanks to my 4 week spell of not getting any long runs in due to the tooth incident, my cardio, endurance, and frankly - confidence are all down. However, this event was the one I had to defer last year, because I couldn't even afford an overnight hotel stay. This year, I do not expect my time to be a goal-event, but I will finish, even if I have to stop, drop and roll across the damn finish line.

{{{{Clarebear}}}} - I'm so sorry your race didn't go as you wanted. If it matters, I'm proud of you for just finishing under those circumstances. It would have been easy to say F-it and walk off, but you saw it to the end. Kudos, m'lady.

Ugggg, Clare. Sorry that your race was so frustrating. Way to hang in there and finish though. I was gonna give hugs to your pubic bone and ass, but that seemed a bit odd for a Monday.

Can't wait to hear about Maria's surf city adventures. The FB pics have looked fun!

I got 4 sloooow miles done today in crappy footing, we got about an inch of snow overnight and it sucked to run in. Bitterly cold starting today, just in time to coincide with my last high mileage week of Little Rock training! At least it's supposed to warm up for the weekend, so I should be able to do my last 20 in 30 degree temps. yipee!

((((((((((((((Clare)))))))))))))))))) I'm so sorry it was such a difficult race. Great so rest and you'll be able to move past it.

My 30 in 30 goal still includes no running, but I walked Penny up Peter's Hill in the Arboretum this morning (insomnia = extra time to walk the dog). Flamenco class on Sat was a workout again, I'm still shocked at how much of aerobic and intense it is.

Sounds like folks had some nice weekend runs! Count me in on the jealous of Maria's race weather.

My Mom said this weekend "I'm just tired of looking out my window and seeing only the top half of the parked cars". Seriously, the mile high piles of snow landed in early December and haven't melted much at all. I WANT SPRING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Wow Clare! I am super impressed that you finished through all of that! You are one strong chica!! Goal times will always be there to meet and beat - you'll get it next time. (((Clare)))

katholeenie tell me about Rodney Yee's Energizing Yoga! I've been doing Shiva Rea's Shakti Yoga, which I'm liking a lot. There are 4 Yoga Practices on the DVD and then it has this Yoga Matrix where you can pick and choose what you want to do out the 4 practices but still in the order they need to be done. Very cool.

I took Seester Goon to the Cable Strength class on Saturday, yeah, she said afterward that she hasn't done any strength training in months so she was sore right away, no delay. I had to pick up som Vitamin I for her. And then she was supah sore on Sunday. I didn't go to the yoga class on Sunday since Goon and the boyz were leaving early afternoon and I wanted to spend time with them. But I did do the Shiva Rea yoga in the afternoon. Today a lunch time run. I wish I was faster so I could get more miles in on a lunch time run, but I can only get 3 max and I'm still a little late getting back to my desk. bah.

I think if I'm going to train for a Spring race, I need to start this week. I have to make a decision.

And, I'm fat.

(((((Clare))))) Big props for finishing and not giving up. You're such an inspiration. I think I might have plopped right down and refused to go further!

Did anyone here register for VT City? I just found out I was accepted into the 2 person relay. I think I have DH convinced to do it with me!

Hi all - well, SB Sunday turned out to be do-nothing fitness-wise Sunday, which I felt initally a bit annoyed about but figured I could use a full day of rest. Today I'll be back at it with 6 or so in SF here.

((((Clare)))) To tough it out with those kinds of winds and a bit of a cold is pretty VTFU in my book Nothing to feel bad about - just rest up and go get 'em next time

Can't wait to hear how the Pfeiffer Clan performed at Surf City!

Kinda' news that hits close to home - read that someone collapsed died at the Kaiser HM here yesterday in very unseasonably warm temps (it got up in the 80s in some parts of the area) and the response to get EMT and/or an ambulance was reportedly slow. I ran that race last year, and if this runner collapsed where I think they collapsed, I can see how they had trouble getting an ambulance there like was reported (it's one of the roads in and out of Golden Gate Park, with one side runners headed out to the Great Highway by the breakers and then the other side with the returning runners to the finish line, with of course, spectators on either side.)

Good runs, workouts or rest days to you all.

Me too! I'm convinced the scale would have been at least one pound less if I'd gotten out for a run yesterday, but we were hosting a SB Party so there was lots to do... Plus it was GoV's bday, and it was a nice treat to just spend most of the day together before folks started arriving. Some of you may have seen on FB that I made my first carrot cake this weekend (Birthday Boy's request). It was really good! Whew! I was so nervous that the cake would be too dry.

Plus I made brownies (not Theia brownies, just regular ones) and oatmeal chocolate chip cookies for the birthday festivities.

Yeah... Let's go back to the original post I quoted... I'm definitely turning into Chubby Chubstein over here.

Hello all.

Nice work this weekend, boB.

Clare - I have had those races, and it is all about perseverance. Next time will be better.

I did not run this weekend, although I did spend another 5 hours clearing snow off of various roofs, digging out the mailbox, chipping ice etc. Got in a sleasy 3 this AM.

(Clare) Good on you for finishing it out.

I ran most of my 8 miler on Saturday prior to our home basketball game. My ankle was pretty fubar though and I'm starting to worry that something else will crop up because of my altered gait. I really, really, really need to spend more time on the rehab and treatment (ice, ice, baby) side of things.

Yesterday I walked a few inclined miles on the treadmill during the SB, and like Ailarie - spent a few hours in the yard cutting down trees and cleaning up debris left behind by the previous owner. My hands are so sore today! But I got to use my alligator loppers a lot, and that's fun stuff.

my only consolation about being really down is I'm not eating...meaning I've lost a little tonnage.

Don't get me started on the fat thing. I'm just about as heavy as I've ever been. Yeah, I ate like a pig during the holiday season. But I think I did better in January, and I ran more miles in January than I ever had in January before. Yet I still haven't lost any weight. I'm gonna go to Little Rock way overweight. No PRs there...

I really have to get serious about shedding some tonnage. On the other hand, in April, I wonder if I can set a Guinness World Record for "Fattest Guy To Run An Ultramarathon"...

Oh, dear...the word "husky size" always brings me back to this bit of clothing nostalgia, so to speak :shudder:
