Good day everyone.

Five mile run this morning on the treadmill; I threw in a little hills and then increase speed as I brought the incline back down. I am really ready to run outside again. But not necessarily the best thing for me to do around here. The dust and filth in the air wouldn't be the best for me.

Happy training everyone.

3.5 mile winter run early this morning made possible by an amazing little Christmas present from Santa.

Since I was such a good boy this year, Santa put under the tree a pair of Microspikes. I had no idea they were coming. Santa contacted a trail running friend of mine to see what exact kind of headlamp it was that I raved about; this same friend let me borrow it for Stone Cat, where the first hour was in total darkness. Same friend, when he spoke with Santa, also recommended a pair of Microspikes for winter running, including on icy trails, saying that they were, along with the headlamp, the very best. Of course I had no idea this conversation was taking place, so I didn't know what to expect. Either way, headlamp was under the tree on Christmas morning. And so too were Microspikes. So this morning, with a fresh foot or more snow on the ground, I decided to slip on the Microspikes even though I think they are more for off road trails. When I was expecting to have a romp through the snow that little resembling real road running -- I thought it would be your standard slip and slide fest when running in snow -- the Microspikes gave me an amazing surprise. They had so much grip and were so light that I ran around the streets as if on dry pavement. In fact, I had ventured into my"snow storm neighborhood" -- the neighborhood across the street that I only run through when road conditions are dangerous for me to run on -- and came upon this quater mile long hill, where I preceeded to do 3 repeats on it without slipping or sliding or even having a hint of either. Those things rock!

Oh geez....started the day off by shoveling about a foot of snow. My back is killing me now as a result, yes I did use my legs, still didn't help as much as I thought it would. Decided to hop on the scale and see what kind of damage the holidays have inflicted on my body....it isn't good. Far too many cookies and "seconds" have me weighing in way over where I want to be. Looks like I will be getting on the bike tonight and pedalling away for about an hour or more to start working back into shape.

Not sure I'll get any workouts in today. Still a bit weak and groggy from the bug I dealt with over the weekend. Working from home today...sort of. Okay, a little. Very little.

Never does help as much as you might think. Shoveling snow is really hard on the back. Lots of torque.

And hey, you weren't alone on the shoveling. I logged 2.5 hours this morning immediately following my 35 minute run. And then I just got back in from another 45 minutes plus 45 bringing in firewood to the garage from the stack outside. Had to refill the stock.

Hope all on the east coast are doing ok under the circumstances.

It has been busy and hectic with lots of travel for the last... who knows how long. DH has just been diagnosed with pneumonia.. after dealing with coughing/fever in Florida and then having spent Christmas Day in bed (at his brother's house).... Big time :(

I weighed the highest ever in MY LIFE a few days ago. It was amazing that french fries were served EVERYWHERE in Orlando, I mean, without being mentioned on a menu, and even at a fancier restaurant. And it was certainly difficult to let them go totally waste if there were in front of your face. I have been running almost every day, but obviously I have been eating more than I use.

Ok, Time to get serious about training for the next season.

2500m swim. Felt slow and awkward. It has been like this every time I swim these days... like once in 10 days~2wks.

1hr spin class. Lots of sweat.
