OMG OM! I'm amazed you just went out and did 26.2 mostly by yourself. You have a special tenacity. Can I make a request of our fellow kicker runners who are adept at graphical wizardry and present Esther with her own Inaugural Marathon Medal? She deserves one.

My name is Mike and I have a confession to make: I have a man-crush for Wes Welker. Go Pats! (Thanks for trying, Houston.)

Today, I did my usual - 6 miles with 6 x 0.4 mi intervals. These are getting fast for me (7:15 to 7:02 pace). Felt awesome.

Where to post? I guess here cuz I saw this one first. Come on over, Opie!

Nice race for BAP yesterday, love those sub-7 miles!

Nice race for Tamster, too. Great pacing and you did beat your time target. Good running for Johnny, too. And yes, you never can tell who will show up and mess up the AG awards for you. Had that happen myself at Manchester. It's a double-bummer when you don't know your competition so have no idea who is what!

Hey SS, if you want snow you should come and get some of ours. Please. I hate snow. I can see it's kind of fun the first few snowfalls, but it's just a mess you have to deal with. And running in it when it's even just a few inches deep can be a total pain.

But today we have freezing rain! As if the 5" of snow we got late last week wasn't enough, today we've got rain making all our roads a treacherous skating rink. Schools were open, and buses tried to run but after so many ended up in the ditch they canceled the middle schools. I don't think many buses were left to try to get those kids anyway. DH took DS2 in to school, but the normally 15 minute trip took well over 50 minutes today. And then the district sent out messages encouraging parents to keep kids home. Great. A little proactive notice would've been nice. So, I stayed home. I've got stuff to work on here, and other things I can do around the house. Will be interesting to see how things improve (or not) tonight and tomorrow.

I'll probably get a run in on the treadmill later. This could also be a rest day, but it's not like I'm going anywhere today...

I thought about posting every other word between the two dailies but I thought again and it didn't seem to be as funny as it would be just weird.

I ran a big hill run yesteryday, and today my legs are paying the price. Yesterday's run was 6.4 miles out and back, and the back had a 200' elevation gain over 3/4 mile, and just over 2 miles remained after that. While i wouldn't say it was challenging the way some workouts are, it was ... harder than most? But today is when the soreness seems to be settling in. I ran a 5 mile recovery jog with a co-worker today, and it was around 10:10 per mile. Right now I'm feeling like the hard run was today - even a little lightheaded, three hours after completing.

We finished into a fairly strong, very consistent and persistent headwind, so even 10:10 got to be almost easy running effort for me - she was really busting it to hold the pace.

I don't like freezing rain either, E.

yeah, that would've been weird Brian. glad you didn't do it.

thanks again for the comments on my HM Saturday. I learned what I need to improve upon and I have 3 months to work on that. There's another HM here in Feb. I've always treated it as just a long run before, but it's a small field race on a flat course, so maybe I'll 'race' it this time.

Calves are the only thing that is a bit sore from Saturday. I did run a 3.5 mi recovery run yesterday too. Will use the foam roller and do my stretching/ab work tonight. Tomorrow after work will be busy, but hopefully it'll be dry tomorrow and I can get in a lunch time run. Should only be a high of 28 tomorrow, so sounds like good temps to go running in to me!

Thanks for trying the merge, Tamster. It seems that hours can go by and there's no daily, then the minute I start one, someone else does too. Great minds think alike, right? About your race, I have no doubt that if you set your mind to it, you could run a really fast half in February. Maybe I'll be ready for one then, too.

Tammy,

Mom Dove and I originally planned on coming down for the half-marathon this weekend. We didn't because I wasn't up for racing. Sounds like we made a good choice with the weather turning.

Anyway, sorry we didn't have a chance to see you. You ran a great 1/2 on minimal training, just think of the great things ahead for you when you can really train.

Just finished 7.2 shirtless miles.

After a 20 min warm up I started 5' hard then 5' easy..

Finished the third one with a harsh side stitch. The 4th one I did at a reduced effort but still about 8 m/M

I'm ebullient with endorphination,

Given the weather through the passes and the unknown weather forecasted throughout the weekend, I'm glad it didn't work for you and your mom, Dove. Of course, I would have loved for you two, the Labs and the Econo-clan to come down, but not with the weather that was happening. It actually ended up being absolutely fine here in the valley, but they did get snow up in the mountains that you would have had to come through. . . .and can't imagine why you weren't up for racing again, Dove!

Nice Tammy

I vanished again over the weekend as racing and my daughter took over my life. No marathons this weekend so no huge report as such.

I have blogged but the highlights are this

28 minute 5km run with my daughter

60 metre sprint in all time PR

150 metres done (first time)

1000metres in 2.59 and an all time PR - I ran faster as a junior but HEY

Sunday - won my AG at the local duathlon and finished 5th overall. I was beaten by a 54 year old man. He is a World AG Silver Medalist and he out rode me before hanging on as I chased him down on the run.

One of the hardest things with being on the other side of the pond is my interaction gets fragmented. I don't worry though as I love reading about the races you guys have. I know if I lived near the lovely trails I would race even more marathons and ultras than I do now. I am however not sure that would be a good thing :¬)

Gobi, great racing as always! KS, have you seen the new course for the Cowtown half & full? I know you guys have raced it before, and I'm a little tempted to start thinking about the half.

irunwithaManCrush, you are the bright light around here. You and ksrunr must be the biggest cheerleaders for the rest of us around here. I wanna be just like you, instead of the Wicked Witch of the North everyone who really knows me realizes (esp Econo, it seems ) You're running well; nice speed!

<hands OM medal with a big honking salad>

evanf, I hear you. Remember, I grew up in Edmonton, so I do know snow and freaking cold. But following the initial crap days when everyone is adjusting to driving and surviving, etc., comes those blue sky days when it's all snowy and beautiful! Those are the days I miss. And the coastal snow is awful, not like fluffy Rocky Mt snow. Anyway, I just walked home from downtown in the blowing snow and, wow, it was cold walking into that icy wind.

Ebulliant endorphinitis; sounds goot!

Hi Gobi!! WTG on the AG hardware in the du!

Excellent ebulliation, JJJ!

4.3 miles after work in a light rain. Thought I should wear a jacket to keep dry. Silly me! It was much too warm (14°C) for both the ball cap and jacket. Don't tell Ribs, but I tied the sucker around my waist and got in my last short-sleeve run for the season. Complete with sproink as I picked up the pace on the kilometer long path with the slight downhill thru the park. Weeeeeeeeee.

Enjoy the day everyone!

Our dearest SS. You are unique in many ways but you are no wicked witch. You are always remembering and commenting others accomplishments and I can't remember from one day to the next what's going on.

Remember when OM was overtraining and hurting herself all the time? Our little girl has grown up.

Opie - I'd like to go back and defend my AG win at the Cowtown half but they moved the 1/2 and full to a Sunday race. I'm not sure it's worth a vacation for me just to go to FT. Worth.

J3 - good on you.

I do hate the snow. Well, maybe I should qualify that. I hate the new snow that hasn't been plowed, on warm enough days where it's slick so you slip and stumble and stagger around on a seemingly flat route. I don't mind snow that's been packed down and doesn't give way underneath your feet, or is not so "shifty" that your feet slip and slid underneath you. And if it's cold enough, it's better, really. It dries out and the hard pack isn't slick at all, it's like asphalt. That's not so bad. But those days seem hard to come by, especially early in the season.

We're having record breaking freezing rain today/tonight though. School ended up being canceled for Tuesday, and folks who couldn't come in due to the conditions are allowed to claim administrative leave. Ha. And here I worked over half a day at home. Oh well. It was nice to get some uninterrupted time in to work, and I took the afternoon off to do some laundry and get a run in on the treadmill. Still waiting to hear what the work situation is tomorrow, but if the troopers are saying "stay off the roads" it's kind of hard to justify requiring us to be at work.

3.4 miles easy, and a mile walking on the treadmill all while laughing to more of my hilarious podcasts. I love that stuff!

Yes, I have been resting (why does everyone worry that I won't?), though I did end up going to yoga class this evening. Lucky for me, it was hip openers of a low to medium intensity, so it was all just fine for me. Tomorrow I think I might walk to the library if the weather is good, about 3 miles round trip. But yeah, no real running for a couple days, I'd expect.
